If you can get up to Sheffield on the 26th of October and you want 2 tickets for you and your lad for the home game against Stoke, you can have ours. 2 adult tickets in the middle of John Street. Don't want anything for them, you just need to be registered with the club. I usually give them to a mate when we are on our hols, but you can have first dibs if you're interested?
Thanks for the offer, much appreciated! I am actually visiting Sheffield at the end of October, unfortunately it wont be until the 30th!

Ah, that's a shame mate. Hope the young un enjoys his first game. (and many after)

Jan 1981 14 years old never been as scared as we got chased down that gennel back to coach , it's been discussed on this site before about that day 2 season later booked on football ball special and caught chicken pox in the week so anyone who got chicken pox blame me 😄

This is an unofficial follow up to the Away Day Etiquette thread.

Living in the south means I struggle to get to games, home or away.

We've finally got a local game which I'd love to take my eldest to - he turns 8 in November. He's not been to one of our games yet. I've got visions of taking the train over, grabbing lunch, getting him in the thick of a Blades pub and really soaking up the experience.

My main concern is the reputation of the chav element in our away support along with the general reputation of pompey fans. While I'm sure my son would love the occasion, I'm a bit worried a bad experience could put him off as he can be a sensitive bugger!

Growing up I went to most if not all of the 90's/early 2000 games at Fratton Park with my dad. From Alan Knight, Gerry Creaney, Peter Crouch, Paul Merson etc, the amazing 2-1 win when Pompey were top but we had Michael Brown, even the day the linesman got whacked. I never experienced any trouble but I'm not sure if my dad was just good at avoiding it!

Does anyone regularly take a youngster to away games? Or is it a bad idea? Like I said, I'd love him to get the whole Blade experience (ideally at Bramall Lane but that's logistically/financially difficult) but not if there's a good chance it could go wrong and scar him for life! He's already asking for Messi/Mbappe/Yamal kits so I need to keep him on the straight and narrow with us!
You may be aware, but the whole of the away end at Pompey was made safe standing in the past year in case that adds any reassurance – likely everyone would have stood anyway at this one, but should mean you’ve got a bit more protection from anyone falling over the seating to celebrate a goal

Haven’t a clue what that means. Balham Snr couldn’t care less about football.
A controversial decision from the linesman resulted in one of our fans running down from the Milton end, grabbing a camera tripod then twatting the lino over the head with it!
Anyone here claiming credit?

I didn't even know it had a roof 😂 I don't think I've been there since that was built

I'm in Totton, but back in the day I went to Portsmouth uni so know it quite well. Lived off Fawcett Road and then on Outram Road, loved it there!
Totton used to live in Marchwood ! Went to Pompey when I was 12 for a night game. Got scarf nicked but . . . . When you win 5-1 who cares !! Those were the days.

Pompey fans to me are a bit arseholey. Grew up with them and Soton fans on the Isle of Wight. Is a bit rough walking down Fratton Road. But I suppose you could get off at Fratton station and walk with the rest of them not showing colours etc. After all Soton play in red and white too.

Was there. Staggered couldn't believe it.

Simon Tracey got sent off was the incident that led to the lino getting attacked.
Sean Derry deputised in goal and United held on for a 1-1 draw.
October 1984 I was serving in the Navy.
I paid on the gate for the home end. I tried to keep quiet until Ray McHale scored a worldy from about 25 yards. Of course I went barmy but nobody said anything. Maybe because I was on my own they let it slide.
United played well and harshly lost 2-1 in the end.
At the final whistle one of their fans said to me “ you were unlucky mate “.

Might have been someone on the forum, but they claim the linesman threw the first punch.

Back from first away day (only made the second half, absolutely fuming).

Just thought I would say it was an absolute pleasure.

If Portsmouth is like Norwich, I wouldn't have a problem taking a kid as long as you don't mind the usual football language (which I think most people on here would be aware of).

It was... like watching the blades but only with fans that could be bothered to travel. So you had the usual tactical geniuses, those who are there to sing and keep singing, those that might be winding up the rival fans with a few waves (they seem to do it the wrong way round though, palms in... don't know what that meant 🤣)

Great mix, old, young, men, women kids, all just a bit keener.

Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry you missed the first half(!?).

You also missed the kids fight pre-match then?

Yep, late leaving and issues parking meant I arrived at about 44 minutes.

As I was walking down I could hear Shoreham boys being sang

Anyone sussed any trains from Sheffield in less than 5 hours for this one?

Tickets on sale tomorrow btw.

See we’ve been given just over 2,000 tickets for this. What do you think the chances of it selling out are? I want to take my lad but he’s only on about 1,000 points so will be the last category to be eligible.

Decent chance you’ll be ok due to train issues.
