God's country ...... Rovrum!
There's been one or two rumblings that Murphy's arrival is to be part funded by Chris Porter going in the opposite direction

The fact Porter has mysteriously vanished from the squad (did he have flu?) and now this has been posted on Blades Mad from Twitter. Maybe there's something in it, although it says it's a separate deal

@David_Drabble yes but it's not part of the deal its a totally deprecate deal they've taken on his contract

I thought he could be off.

Seems odd he disappeared especially with Kitson only just coming back from injury.

was ok as a squad player, but as an impact player did little barring his goal in the play off semi final.

Not surprised. I expect another striker to come in if he's gone though. Unless Danny thinks Ironside can fill the void

I would be pissed off if Danny doesnt think he can fill the void.

I have never rated Porter. As Gave said, he had one decent game in that play off semi but has been bloody awful in pretty much every other game - he was absolutely piss poor in that same play off first leg it was laughable. I like the look of Ironside and would choose him over Porter every time and aid his development.
This would be a very welcome late Xmas pressie.

CHRIS Porter, the Sheffield United striker, is attracting interest from several Football League clubs, The Star understands.

Porter, who has missed his team’s last five games through injury, has scored 10 goals in 61 appearances since arriving at Bramall Lane from Derby County 18 months ago.

But it remains unclear whether Danny Wilson, the United manager, would be prepared to do business should a suitable offer materialise.

Fingers crossed someone makes an offer.

The only question I would ask is WHY?

I think if someone makes any kind of offer for Porter I reckon it will be accepted.

The promise shown by Ironside has helped but I still don't think he'd let Porter go without a replacement. We can't presume Murphy will score goals just because he did in the SPL and with Miller out and Cressy seemingly on his last legs, it leaves us with Blackman as the most experienced striker.

Hey! What about me?

A small flaw in your argument is that Porter is/was not a prolific goalscorer.

Porter is not actually that bad. He is obviously extremely limited, but he works hard and creates stuff for others. He wins a lot of headers and links up well with the likes of Miller. I think that this season his general play has been pretty good. However he is not as good as Kitson. His goals to games ratio is pretty crap for a striker and he does not carry much of a goal threat. Perhaps he is worth keeping as a replacement, but we have a few options up front: Ironside, Blackman, Murphy and Kitson.

I would not be sorry to see him go. Especially if it meant freeing up wages to bring in a winger.

Agree with you on Porter. He serves a purpose and comes in handy when you need to assert some physical pressure on the opposition defence. I see a suitable replacement in Ironside and if he continues to show promise (and Danny thinks he's ready) then letting Porter go might make sense financially. It needs careful consideration though, Porter might not be prolific but he has a different skill set to that of our other forwards. With Kitson, Blackman, Murphy, Ironside, Cresswell and De Girolamo currently available we're ok for numbers but look a little short on experience. It's a tricky one, he might need replacing if he goes.

I am far from a Porter fan but him leaving would leave us incredibly short up front.

Kitson & Blackman would be the only recognised strikers, Murphy is a forward player but not an out and out striker, Creswell cannot be relied upon for a full 90 as he is obviously getting past it. Geronimo isn't really an option other than the odd camio and Ironside is still very raw. Not ideal as injuries and suspensions take their toll during the run-in.

If Porter goes he would need replacing IMO.
