Believe it or not I got speaking to his wife a few weeks back. In his 80s now and not at all well by her accounts. She spotted the program I was holding and told me all about him.
Life long Wednesdsyite as well. Completely out of love with the sport now, won't watch a game and tells United where to go when they try and contact him, but still follows our results, apparently.

That would have made Derek mid forties when he played for us. Which may explain, along with his lack of ability, some things.
