... 3 players who were definitely never fit to wear a blades shirt!!.

Made me think, players not good enough to wear the shirt but tried hard and became pseudo legends Bobby Ford, Chris Porter et al

A "What they lacked in talent they made up for in effort and commitment" thread ? .... bit long winded & needs shortening for a thread title.
Regardless, I'll nominate Dougie Hodgson.

We really did have some shit players under Adkins. Woolford,Hammond and salmon!!. 3 players who were definitely never fit to wear a blades shirt!!. Unfortunately they'll always be part of our history. I hope that if Adkins does end up at the sty!. Those three twats will have a chance of a final huge pay packet!!. In wilder we trust. UTB

That they will. They will always be a reminder of just how low we sunk, how far we had fallen in the dark and desolate "BW" era (Before Wilder, in case anyone missed that).

The lows make the highs higher in football. If some sort of miracle happens over the next 33 games, it will be made so much sweeter when we compare it to where we were 18 months ago. Even if it doesn't, we're still doubly appreciative of what we have now because of just how shite we were until HRH The Lord Sir CW arrived.

Back on topic for the thread...I would like nothing more than to see the combo of Adkins/Hammond at the sty, masterminding their specacular collapse, descent into the bottom 3 and uncovering of all their nefarious financial dealings as they plummet into L2 in short order. A man can dream surely...

They are merely the latest incumbents on a list that has many names over the years. Joining the likes of Tony Moore, Duggie Brown, Don Peattie, Derek Richardson, Paul Williams, John Flood and many others

Mark Patterson and Charlie Hartfield are high on my list in this category.

Both were entirely fearless and gave everything for the cause and, in both cases, the team looked noticeably short when they were not in it.

I think the key to Adkins' success at Southampton may be that in addition to inheriting some serious talent, it was young and impressionable talent. The only kind of people I can imagine falling for Adkins management-speak bullshit are the very young and the very credulous.

There may be no 'I' in team Nigel, but there is a 'U' in cunt.

Forgot about Bloody Salmon too! Stop doing this to me!

You FORGOT about both Sammon and Woolford ??????? !!!!!!!!!! Fuckin' hell - I wish I had a Memory Erase function as good as yours .

Nevertheless, it might be an idea to have it checked out, particularly if you sometimes find yourself half way upstairs and wonder why you're going there .......

Can't agree with Hartfield. I liked his committment but I thought we did fine when he didn't play, which was most of the time.

Or more like can't remember if you're supposed to be going up or down and then piss yourself when you get to the bottom of the stairs!

Always used to say to my lad when yet another Mark Patterson shot whizzed into row Z of the Kop,"he's getting closer, he's getting closer. " It was a standing joke with us. Not sure if he ever did break his duck but agree that he was a wholehearted player

Paul Williams ! Now there`s a memory jogger. Definitely up there with Hammond and Sammon as a candidate for the worst player ever to wear a Blades shirt.

Yes that often happens too. I understand that memory loss is often caused by a terrible trauma and shock!

My dad's on a zimmer and a couple of weeks ago, it took him that long to get from the kitchen to his chair in the living room, by the time he got there, he needed a piss, then had to shuffle off to the toilet, back the way he'd just shuffled.

Swinester on now saying he would like Adkins as manager i was waiting for the troll at the end but no.... he thinks he would do a good job. Lets pray lads!!!
they are so desperate for a new manager I read a thread where they were considering Neil Warnock

Mark Patterson was some player. Covered every blade of grass, fierce in the tackle aware of his limitations and intelligent enough when he had the ball to give it to someone with more talent.
The Kop cross bar must still be vibrating from a piledriver he hit against Birmingham City.

Paul Williams ! Now there`s a memory jogger. Definitely up there with Hammond and Sammon as a candidate for the worst player ever to wear a Blades shirt.
God I remember Derek Richardson must be the worst ever I remember him giving the sticks to the kop on his last outing

Believe it or not I got speaking to his wife a few weeks back. In his 80s now and not at all well by her accounts. She spotted the program I was holding and told me all about him.
Life long Wednesdsyite as well. Completely out of love with the sport now, won't watch a game and tells United where to go when they try and contact him, but still follows our results, apparently.

If Adkins went to Wednesday and signed Hammond on a massive 5 year deal, I think i'd find it in my heart to forgive them. Maybe?
