Looking at Bournemouth s and Brighton's, I can only assume that £10m will get you a 1 bed terrace now!

And it's based on our, Norwich and Villa wage bills in the Championship and everyone else's last season wage bill against this season points which makes it a complete piece of mis information and totally meaningless.

Based on 2018/19 wages including promotion bonuses I expect, but even if our wage bill has been doubled for 2019/20 we would still be top of that chart. I expect the wage bill will have gone up to around £50 million in reality.

This really does emphasise 2 key things :-

The speed in which we have progressed.

The value of a top level manager that actually understands fiscal constraints and behaves in a manner accustomed to a true professional and not a kiddy in a sweet shop a la Mark Hughes / Harry Rednapp !

We will do well to make sure the latter does not creep in to our thinking while making progressive decisions on transfer fees and increasing the wage budget in the coming years.

The wage bill will still certainly be comfortably the lowest in the league, but it'll still be much higher than last season. McBurnie, Moose, Jagielka, L Freeman, the Robinsons, Osborn Rodwell and Berge won't be on league 1 wages

You have to factor in that 40-50% of our wages last season were paid as promotion bonuses. I'm sure players have had a pay rise this season, and we've obviously brought in additions, but if Mcburnie is anything to go on - 20k per week - we've not exactly smashed it on the wages front. I can see last season and this season's figures being very similar.This season being 40m plus any bonuses.
Edit: Worth noting we've heard of a European qualification bonus from Norwood (post Villa), and repeated talk of relegation wage reductions from Wilder. Incentives are very much part of how we still operate under Wilder.

It's a difficult balancing act. Lowball on wages and pay Berge and Mcburnie level fees? Pay big wages ala Burnley and lowball on fees? Or a bit of both. I can't see us having the clout to do a Bournemouth: big wages and fees. I'd lowball on the wages and accept that we're going to lose players. This way at least you can accumulate a young squad of saleable assets if it goes tits up. The wage bill isn't going to cripple us either, regardless of division.
