Whats everyone's views on this?

I saw a few of them out on saturday night, and we all know there are a few who frequent the clubs every week. What are peoples opinions on it?

Is it okay for a footballer to be going out in Sheffield after a 3rd home defeat of the season?
Are they allowed to or should they be at home?

I don't know whether it's me being boring, but they seem to be out an awful lot. I wouldn't mind just once or twice a season but there is a certain striker for example who is out every weekend.
I've never seen the pigs players out... I must admit. Well, the faces I know that is...

They have plenty of privileges, and for me staying off the drink shouldn't be too much to ask.
They are atheletes first and foremost, and supping whiskey on the rocks on a saturday (and tuesday...) isn't exactly good for them. You wouldn't see Messi or Ronaldo out doing it. If our lot aspired to be anything more than average football league players they'd do the same.
This team don't seem to care, you wouldn't see Warnock's lads out after a loss at home to Millwall. It's a horrible position we've got ourselves in.

If I'm wrong fair enough, it's just an opinion, but something knocks me a bit sick about the worst set of players in our recent history taking a fair wedge from the club out drinking when a training session on a sunday morning wouldn't be uncalled for.

Free to choose. If they fall foul of a policy set by their employer then they will face the consequences.
On another note does Mc Nulty like Cider?

Probably drowning your sorrows after another poor performance

As long as they aren't training or have a match the next day I personally don't have a problem with it. I wouldn't say fitness levels have been an issue, it's more skill/ability levels that are the issue!

I know players like Ronaldo and Bale are teetotal and it can't be a bad thing, but they aren't world class players because they don't drink.

I think it certainly helps though.
I'm not trying to force my opinion on anyone, we'll all have different views on it and we're bound to, I just can't say I agree with it. Maybe a couple of times a season but not every weekend

Our players are NOT athletes.

if its not to excess then it wont have any effect, especially if its after the event (the match)

it would be like saying having a bad day at work and then coming home having a glass of wine/can of lager is going to prevent you from doing your work the next day... by the time you are back at work its our of your system.

years ago the players used to have drinks with the fans after a game... didnt make them play bad the next game,

its not the drink that's making them play bad, it seems to be sheer fear!

I guess they're only human and this is their chosen way of unwinding. Hopefully not drinking to excess though.

I've never seen anything like it. Never have so many players been seen out drinking, especially after incredibly poor results and performances. It's a joke.

Well on the one hand I bet Bassetts lot used to put away some heroic amounts back in the day, in fact I know Bassett would often join them. So nothing wrong with it in principle.

Then again I bet they didn't ponce around like a bunch of Zoolander rejects with massive fucking entourages acting the dogs bollocks with a 'do you know who I am' mentality despite barely fulfilling their job descriptions as footballers.

Out of interest, where do they go?
I thought I saw Brayford on Eccy Rd by the Pointing Dog but was driving so it may have been another man with a resplendent beard.

Most of the players that have prolonged careers, don't seem to go out and / or drink much during their playing years.
Who knows what I would do if I had thousands of pounds to burn through every week; I'd like to think I would be sensible, but...

Absolutely nowt wrong wi it. Footballers are people, some people like to unwind with a few drinks on a Saturday neyt. Nothing more to say really. Are they meant to sit at home all night after a defeat and think about what they did? Hang their heads?

If Barmy doesn't know that about Bassets side, it can't be true TD.

I'd rather they took their job seriously to be honest, why not think about what the best players do and try to emulate them?
Theres a big drinking culture problem at the lane, it coincides with the worst period in our history.

Is it a coincidence?

Our players are NOT athletes.
I think he meant to say some of our players have athletes foot, that's all I can think of anyway.

Some of our players are playing like they've been to Benidorm with Charlie Sheen for two weeks.

I had several on Saturday so I'm not about to tell them what they can and can't do.

I've no problem with it at all. The ones that shouldn't be out drinking are the fans (pigs or Blades) who can't help themselves interfering and having a pop when they see a player enjoying a beer.

Well, it's unwise to say the least, regardless of result.

They're athletes primarily and drinking to excess will harm their fitness. It's rather foolish if hey want to move on to better things. Going for a meal and having a couple of drinks won't cause any real harm but I can't imagine a group of 'lads' out clubbing on a weekend will be anything other than 'very merry'

Given the issues some players have had on a night out it is incredibly stupid. They will be targeted by both sets of fans. I remember seeing Villa players in the Leadmill a few years back. You would at least expect them to go somewhere where they are less likely to be recognised or get abuse.

If it was every so often it wouldn't be so bad but every weekend is not acceptable.

I used to live in a shared house with a professional footballer's other half and he was tea-total during the season.

Why didn't that post surprise me ?
Why didn't a reply from you surprise me?

If you're going to obsess over posters, at least be consistent and aim your discontent at all who have expressed the same view.

So a few bevs after a crap day at work amounts to not taking your job seriously?

Should I be going home after a crap day and thinking about what the best admin workers do, trying to emulate the Ronaldo's and Messi's of admin? Or does this logic only apply to footballers?
