Players happy to pick up a wage...

In hindsight, we were too quick to reward the players with lengthy PL level contracts. We all talk about needing to refresh the squad... but are Norwood, Fleck, Baldock, Egan, Stevens etc. really going to walk away from these salaries? The best of their careers, offered to them during their peaks on an assumption that they could maintain their levels for years to come .. No. We're stuck with them.

We had to settle for our 2nd or 3rd choice signings.
. It really says a lot about our scouting department. .

The perfect storm

Shit scouting system ? No problem if you can afford to buy your first choice

Limited funds ? No problem if you have a global scouting network to tap into

Shit scouting and limited funds ? Knob heads.

If a good scout earns £20k per year, and then expenses same again for travel, that 2 weeks of McB’s wages
Get 2 in Europe, 1 North America, 1 rest of world

£160k is around 5,000 £30 tickets on match day

Bonkers

When we got these players, they were either journeymen, failed prospects, deemed not good enough or viewed as league 1 and below quality players. Point is, they all felt like they had a point to prove and people to prove wrong. They’d always go in to tackles full blooded, win the first balls and if not they’d win the second, they were rough and physical despite not being a tall team and seemed to give it 100% every game. Now it feels like because they once finished 9th in the prem and were close to Europe that they almost have a sense of entitlement like the opposition will be scared of them when that is far from the reality. They’ve all proven their point and don’t seem to have the same attitude or passion to play for the badge. I see a lot of talking about slav being the problem but he’s not telling them to be soft as fuck, refuse to commit tactical fouls, shit themselves when it gets to 75 minutes, make individual errors e.g. olsen (nothing more needs to be said), fleck trying to nutmeg players on the edge of his own box, stevens being unable to clear a ball or even make simple passes, egan being 3 yards infront of his opponent and seeing where a pass will be played but still messing up his position so that his opponent gets to the ball first, norwood being unable to get a decent delivery in, osborn being unable to cross the ball. And that was all just from yesterday.
