It's a little bit early to really be thinking about who has been the POTS, especially given the main fact that there's been no stand-out candidate amongst the general flotsam and jetsam that has been Sheffield United's squad.

What there has been out there is a bunch of uninterested strangers, some of which haven't deserved a vote if the poll was for Best Player In Their House.

This is why I think a protest vote is called for. Perhaps if a complete joke of a player wins the award it would be a kick up the arse for the board when either McCabe or Birch has to introduce the winner, or when Gary Sinclair shouts about him at home matches.

The vote shouldn't be for the best player this season, because frankly I along with most Blades genuinely haven't got the faintest idea who has been best. And it shouldn't be for your favourite player either.

The vote for POTS this year should go to the worst player. The one least deserving of our votes. And no, not Monty. Not Quinn either, or Evans, Cresswell, Simonsen or any other player to grace the pitch.

The worst player this season hasn't played at all. In fact he might be one of the worst signings in recent years. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the disaster that is Ryan France.

Now, admittedly he's not actually played so hasn't had the opportunity to show how bad, or even how good he actually is. But considering he's mooched around poorly all season (and most of the previous one too) without contributing anything whatsoever ably demonstrates just how much of shit creek we've managed to get up, sans paddle.

He's also possibly done both the most and definitely the least for this club this season. He's not played at all, which means he's been consistent, something none of the others can be accused of. He's not been on a losing side once. He's not been on a winning side either, but not many of the squad who've played have been winning much this season either.

Ryan France epitomises our current plight. Totally useless and bleeding us of his wages every week. I bet he's not on statutory sick pay either.

So vote for Ryan France. Let the club know we've been rubbish through the medium of the ballot box. He might just win, although you can pretty much guarantee that the club won't let the votes count, in which case there's another subject for the next interactive forum meet 'n' greet.

Vote France. You know it makes no sense, in which case it's an accurate reflection of the whole club at the moment.

Good idea that Shorehamview.

If you were actually looking to vote for the player of the season, many would say it would have been Bartley! Another example of the demise of the club.

That is a good idea sv I agree. I might just vote France on the forum poll when it comes round.

To vote for an actual best POTS would be rather difficult. At the moment, the only one I could bring myself to vote for is Ched. He's our top scorer and has put in some decent performances recently. He is literally the only player (who has played a decent number of games) that I can say anything good about

I really, really like this idea SV and will help in any way possible to make it happen.

Great stuff

I suspect they won't include France on the poll. Andy Reid would be a sort of protest vote and he probably deserves it. I think Lowry would get my vote if he carries on how he's started, with Ched being the "most improved" player.

I suspect a landslide victory for Ryan would lead to a lot of "spoilt" ballot papers and the winner being revealed as whoever Micky wants to offer a new contract to that's wavering the most.

Love the idea though.

Good one SV. Always thinking out of the box. We have a squad of 33 out of which there is not one outstanding player - All those wages and all we have is poor. Although I like the look of Lowry and Parino as prospects.

I considered voting Walton. He has, arguably, contributed as little as France and not done it in a much shorter time frame. I am, however, determined not to split the anti - POTS vote so I'm declaring my support for the France ticket. I shall not be a mere armchair voter either. I shall knock on doors, deliver leaflets, write letters and call in to radio programmes.

I'm stunned, Break out the champange, another focus has been aquired.

To add a bit of credibility, we really should know what he looks like.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our next player of the season:

I don't think you even need a protest vote to be honest. The fact that Andy Reid who was with us about a month is the POTS should be embarassing enough.

Why would you want to make a protest like this?
I can understand the frustrations, but perhaps some fans want to vote genuinely for their POTS. Its a nice way of alienating those fans don't you think?

SV, haven't you been a long time advocator of the "vote with your feet/ wallet" policy. I seem to remember you saying this to more than a few people (correct me if I am wrong) And surely thats a much bigger protest.

The other thing is that now, the transfer window is closed, loanees only (Andy Reid was a loanee, but wouldn't sign a permanent deal until he knew that he couldn't get a game in the PL, which he did)

So I have to ask, what are you trying to achieve with this

'

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea is a prat. Do you really want to embarrass our players at a time when we need them.

Hopefully you won't end up with what you deserve. Do we have to attack every part of the club.

I remember seeing him warm up against Reading away last season and thinking "Great - Utd are giving a youngster a chance" - as he is another one of Blackwell's diddy men. He came on and scuffed one towards the keeper but didn't disgrace himself if I recall. Well worth the 2 years of £8,000 per week or whatever it is for that and his other 'cameos'.

He must be getting on for levels of Ebbrell expense in terms of money per minute on the pitch.
PS - anyone seen Henderson - when is he due back? Another sicknote...

Only a bit of fun. I've never voted in the PoS and probably never will...

Do you honestly think the players give a shit?

Most of our players do a very good job of embarrassing themselves and, much more to the point, our club. It is those of you who accept mediocrity so readily who are getting exactly what you deserve. The club will be delighted to supply as much as you are willing to accept. Enjoy your meal!

Is this as bad has it has got?

And to be honest i can't think of a single player worth Player Of The Season.

kyle bartley has been 'legitimate' player of the season so far.. is that embarrassing enough for you??

SV,

Although you and I have different views and often sharply disagree, you never fail to amuse. You are without doubt the second most humorous poster on here (as Mrs. Doyle once nearly said to Ted). Your ability to make me laugh out loud is matched only by a succession of SW managers, players and chairmen. It is a genuine antidote to the depressant that is SUFC.

Keep it coming!

Everyone's a bloody critic. Only second? Oh well, must try harder.:D

I thought we could try the new "vote with your vote" method.

It might get some attention. It might get a laugh.

No. I've been accused of being one of the arch-clappers a lot though. I go to every match. I support the team, or at least the rag-tag collective that takes to the pitch. They are doing a great job of embarrassing themselves and us. This could be a way of pointing it out to them. Plus it might be funny. You could try laughing, as it's either that or a nervous breakdown when you watch United these days.

Piggy fans did a protest vote a season or two ago.

It did them nor their club the slightest bit of good.

Rather than giving the board a kick up the arse, it made them look dafter than ever.

if you want a "protest" vote then dont vote at all and make sure others dont vote too.
maybe the lack of votes plus a chat about the futility of voting for a PoS when in truth there hasnt been one might just get peoples attention.

I normally like your posts, you tend to tell it like it is, i'm sure the humour is there (somewhere) yet when we've had a week of moralistic fans complaining at Leicester for having a go at Mattock when he was injured and now we have a protest vote based around a player whose had a long term injury and has hardly played a few minutes for us... Seems to smack of hypocrisy to me...

But thats not my point, I just think its a shite thread :)

Perhaps I just took it too seriously, but its a fecked up world where I tend to read Lenners posts with intrigue and yours with bemusement
