Who is our worst player to have made 100 appearances?

Did Brian Gayle get 100 games for us. If he did he was the worse defender in my time.
Brian Gayle was a very good defender, couldn't pass the ball but then again in the previous 20 years before he signed you can count on one hand players who could. Steve Charles is my pick but we've had that many tripe players I've probably forgotten loads.

I know it's a boring path to tread, but I will never understand the criticism of Nick Montgomery. He put in 100% every single time, and made the absolute best of his abilities (which weren't as good as some players', but were certainly far better than some other effortless crap that we've had to put up with).

Edit: No votes for Steve Simonsen yet?
Monty was great at breaking up play but couldn’t pass to save his life. Despite that I will always remember him for when we beat Arsenal at the lane in the Warnock premier league season, Monty man marked a prime Patrick Vieira out of the game.

He marked him out of the game that well that Vieira never even made it onto the pitch that day 😄

On the back of a shoutbox question I asked, and given that JLT has made over 100 appearances for United despite being utter dog turd. I want to know which cheeky little scamp has managed to pull the wool over a managers eye's so much he can be rightly said to be our worst ever player with more than 100 appearances for us to his name?

Link of a list of all players with more than 100 appearances is below:

I'm saying JLT gets an honourable mention, but he's no Ryan Flynn or Michael Doyle. For number of appearances to shitness ratio, our very own traffic cone takes some beating, but Monty has some nostalgic wonderment to him and his complete lack of football ability so he gets a pass from me (which he would then mis control or boot down the line for Nuddy) so it's not him.

I think overall Doyle gets my vote for our worst.

Over to you.
100% agree.

Doyle was absolutely crap.

Steve Charles has to be in contention. Played in the famous relegation team to division 4 and never looked better than average at that level.

People calling out premier league players haven't seen the dark days
Steve Charles was woeful. I never worked out what he was good at, he wasn't even very good at running around.

I well remember watching Neill Collins first appearance at the Lane when he came to us on loan and turning to my son after about 20 minutes , saying that I had never seen a performance by a Blades defender that was so hopelessly inept .

For me he is the hands down winner in this in this category . Of those who played less than 100 games a certain Martyn Woolford must be a good shout ……

I thought Gayle was decent, limited on the ball, but he could defend.
We were looking certs for relegation in 93-4. Gayle had been out all season, but came back in.March. We then lost only 1 of our next 12 games, getting 19 points (top half of the table form - we'd got 23 from the previous 29)

Going Into the last game we look certs to stay up. We all know what happened next, but Gayle had majorly contributed to our even being still in it.

Collins best foot was his head.

There are many less than 100 (indeed Lee Baxter's 45 minutes takes some beating) but I still cannot believe Marcus Williams was actually ever a footballer. He looked like he'd never played the sport.

George Long scrapes into the 100 appearances category. We've have keepers play a lot worse and he has has a decent career. However, I don't recall the certainty that a Blades player would make a mistake, and that it would cost us, hanging around anyone like it did around George.

I saw him throw away a playoff semi final for Millwall a couple of seasons ago. It all came flooding back

I feel a bit bad, because I did meet him away from football and he seemed a nice guy, but that was the worst team in our history, and he looked average at best in it
