Who is our worst player to have made 100 appearances?

His hoofed hooked ball over his right shoulder was the bain of watching sheff united for a while. No composure but lets get up the field, majority on this forum could do that. Suppose some of us have a low barometer on what a footballer should offer
I always used to say that Quinn had to undo anything really good he’d done by immediately doing something really bad. I think we missed him when he left but he got some stick when he played. I reckon I used to sit next to his biggest fan, he used to go nuts if anyone questioned anything he’d done.

Correct answer. My unprovable belief is that with a quality keeper we quite likely don’t end up in league 1 to begin with, and absolutely get promoted at the first attempt.

Goalies are so important.
I said at the beginning of that season that he would cost us points I won’t blame him for the spot kick though albeit I did hear that the ball is on the same trajectory as Colin West’s penalty

Bonnie Langford would have probably played better!
I remember seeing Bobby Ford in a nightclub on a night out. We must have been around 16 at the time and there were a few Blades in the group, we got thrown out for singing “Ohhhh Bobby Ford” for about 20 mins. He was loving it.

He probably did love it, as he was dogger (my opinion), so he was probably surprised to have a fan club.

The fact his fan club was young teens, bladdered on Babycham, probably knobbles his street cred a little 🤣

We had a lot of excellent midfielders here during Montgomery's time at the club, they were that good because they had Montgomery at the side of them, doing the leg work and allowing them to play, was he a great footballer no, but I guarantee anyone who played alongside him would not hold the same opinion
Monty was always first name on the team sheet, he was a very important player who made others look good by breaking up opposition play

In terms of actual footballing ability, it's got to be Nick Montgomery (disclaimer: I haven't seen them all play). As others have said though, he did what was asked if him to a high standard and contributed to some level of success.

Steve Simonsen is the one that stands out for me, I can't believe he made that many appearances for a start. He was an awful goalkeeper and by far the worst we've had in my time, except for a few that only played a handful of games between them (Baxter, Olsen, Grbic). He directly contributed to us getting relegated, and failing to get re-promoted as well, so probably cost the club millions.

Hoddle was unfortunate that the player competing for his spot was Gazza. He was a bit of a knob too
Hoddle England 74 - 88
Gazza England 88 - 98

Different eras. I think compared to some genious', Hoddle was quite bland. Gazza on the other hand a complete basket case.
Best 2 England players I've ever seen.

As I can go back over half a century it has to be oh no Frank Barlow. Found his level in the lower leagues with Chesterfield. Crazy that Monty is even considered for this. Always gave 100%. You need his type of player to allow the more skillful players to perform.

Are we on about the Nick Montgomery who played 349 games for us, over 12 years, under seven different managers, including caretakers ?
The one who played in the Premier League.
The Monty who would shore this midfield up on his own.
Yes of course he was crap,he fluked a career out of football 🙄
Better than Trevor Hockey RIP.

Simonsen by a distance, soon to be overtaken by brewster by an even further distance. The likes of monty and kozluk no chance, both held there own in the premier league, Jack Robinson not even remotely close to being on the list either imo.

I don't remember that much about the team from 1979-81 but apart from a couple of players they were all pretty awful and Tibbott was definitely in that category.
Other than that I think Neill Collins would get my vote. His limitations were covered by Maguire first and then badly exposed when he left. Add to that his constant blaming of everyone else around him.

I wouldn't put Flynn in the same category of shitness as Chris Porter, Michael Doyle and Neil Collins, but he's not that far off it.

But when you consider the longevity in the team of all those players, it's no fucking wonder we stayed down in League one for 6 fucking seasons.

Monty! Fucking terrible excuse for a footballer. Other teams used to pass in triangles just to watch the clueless fucker run round and round and round in circles like a dog chasing its tail. Apparently Frank Lampard and Patrick Vieira were overheard in Linekers Bar laughing about how shit he was 😉

UTBFTP 👊👊👊
