Planning for the Championship

If we continue to create as many chance as we are doing then we’ll start to pick up points. Our barren run in front of goal won’t continue. Whether we’ll pick up enough points to stay up is another matter. Getting out of this is going to be extremely difficult but ask yourself this, has anything ever been achieved by anyone who decided to throw the towel in early? Admitting defeat with 28 games left is crazy and is a sure fire way to ensure that defeat actually occurs.
The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. I’d love to think we could escape but we won’t if we keep playing the same way with the same people up front. McBurnie simply isn’t good enough. Chances mean nowt if they’re not converted and we need someone who can score.

True, but I feel that if we continue to create the sort of chances we’ve created in the last few games we will start to see them converted in to goals. We are largely the same team as we were last season, when we were world beaters. What’s changed?

As I say, admitting defeat now will absolutely guarantee relegation. Personally, I’d prefer to see is putting up a bit more of a fight.

There’s no way teams would buy our players.

No one went in for them last year let alone this year. Our striker force today was Scotland’s reserve team. Fleck doesn’t start for Scotland.

Totally agree with you there. Unfortunately, I just can’t see us converting chances created with McBurnie leading the line. I’ve been a critic of Lunny but have to say that we went up a couple of gears when he came on today. Where’s Bogle? the clips I saw when we signed him madd me think he’d be a huge influence but hasn’t even made the bench?

We’re down, no coming back now. Berge will want out and command decent money. JoC will probably be be forced to stay due to his injury time out. Egan? Maybe but it wouldn’t be to a big club so if we’re smart we’d make sure he stays. I’d can McBurnie even though, after the pish he’s served up we might lose 50% of what we paid for him. He may be ok in the Championship but not in a team that plays the way we want to and he clearly isn’t up to PL standard. Mousse may want to go abroad? Time to plan for a future without Didzy and Norwood. Other than that I think we stand a good chance of bouncing straight back up IF we play with some sodding commitment. I’d back him for now but if CW genuinely has lost his mojo, he’ll be gone by this time next season.
Didn’t we play with commitment tonight?

How about taking part in sensible debate instead of handing out insults, I know that is asking a lot from the likes of meatheads like you but how about trying every once in a while?
How about wait until we have to plan for the championship, we still have plenty of games left and threads like these could make you look stupid.

I think we lose Berge for sure, probably JOC, maybe Egan and Baldock. The majority will still be here. Don't see anyone going for Fleck at his age.

Pal, I've been watching the Blades for near on 55years and we don't do bouncing straight back what we do is go through the lower divisions for a bit and then bounce back, and yes it does hurt!!

The only player in our squad that would be cast iron guaranteed not to be here next year if we're relegated is Berge.

Unfortunately that's part of our problem. We have assembled a squad full of players that are decent and we have a great team sprit and togetherness however most of them just aren't Premier League quality which is why we're struggling so badly.

When we got promoted we had momentum and our amazing support, both home and away, really drove them on and probably got a good 10/20% extra out of the players so we massively overachieved last season before lockdown but this is now not in play so we have reverted to our true level.

As Blades with our red tinted specs on we probably think we have a squad full of players that will all depart if we're relegated but in all reality look at the list below (our "best" players) and think about how many other Prem sides they would get in???

JOC
Egan
Fleck
Mousset
Brewster

they aren't likely to. that is why they are in the bottom six.

Is in not fair to say that about us tho?

My belief was we needed 4 points from WHU & WBA - we got 0.

Fact is we can’t score even when we create and we can’t keep a clean sheet.

Not sure of the resolution

Do we stick with CW and hope our luck changes, or do we change management and hope for the new manager bounce?

Who can we get in if we let him go/ CW resigned?

If we brought in a big Sam type of manager, would he do what he did for Everton/WHU and keep us up? Who knows
If we stick with CW will he?

Prince has a big decision to make

I think Fleck would like to set his record straight at Rangers.

I just hope that the lack of games that JOC has had this season will take him out of the limelight. Prospective buyers may want to see how he looks following his injury so we might get to keep him for one more.

That's the hope. Yep, the hope is our best player is out injured so we don't sell him!

Didn’t we play with commitment tonight?
Sorry, sloppy language on my part. I was referring to the commitment to attack, press and generally look to dominate teams. I really don’t think we have shown that for more than 10 minute spells since the first break. McBurnie and Didz don’t have the pace or energy to hustle defences. It’s not part of Berge’s game, Norwood can’t do it and CW seems to have stopped setting us up to play that way. Burke epitomises what we were about. Granted he’s not the most polished player but he really does put people under pressure. However, one man pressing on his own is never going to work.

I don't see us losing that many to be honest. Berge obviously would move on and maybe Egan. JOC would have to come back and prove fitness to get a move and I don't know if anyone would want moose at the moment, so many fitness problems.

That actually leaves us in a decent position for the Championship. We'd need to bring in a couple of midfielders obviously and a centre back. As good as Egan is, he's probably the easiest of the three to replace, as it's a more conventional position.

Our striking options all have excellent records in Championship too. McBurnie 31 in 59, Brewster 10 in 20, Sharp got 23 in his last season in the championship.

I'm not going to say anything silly like we piss the league, but we've got some players who are proven to be excellent at that level. We could very well be much stronger than we were 2 years ago.

Let’s hope last seasons narrative of all our players are shite individuals but as a collective are good keeps the sharks away.

You’ve also got to take into account, the financial plight many bottom half premier league clubs are in, not sure many will have money to splash out. Example Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich only lost a couple of players each and remained relatively intact.

we may not lose loads of players (joc/Egan/berge/mouse) but we’re just as likely to do a Sunderland or Huddersfield than this years relegated side next time out.

We can’t score - don’t really see that changing a level below either. And I’m Not sure I trust the recruitment team either to replace what we lose after the last 3/4 windows

Sunderland has a lot of players who were wildly over paid and hadn't got experience in the championship, Huddersfield went up weak.
The one thing we do have is a lot of championship experience and proven championship level players. Norwood for example, has an incredible record at that level. Plus we've still got players like Freeman.
We look a mess at the moment, no denying. Our squad is much better than the one that got promoted though, way more options up front, Freeman in an upgrade, even people like Lowe and Bogle are proven.

We're way down on confidence and would need to find wins early, but we have players who are proven at that level, many of which were standouts.

We missed shit loads of chances even the season we went up. Mcgoldrick could have had 30 that season but hopefully Brewster can remedy that next season. McBurnie should be good at Championship level but will need a few goals early doors to get his confidence up as it's likely he isn't going to get many, if any, this season. Weirdly I think we are well set up front for The Championship. Even Billy will be an asset.

The defence may need a rebuild if Egan and/or JOC goes but the main position we need to get right is midfield. Lundstram and Berge will go and Norwood and Fleck are getting to an age where injuries will be more common so there's a lot that needs to be done there. We desperately need a creative midfielder. Even in The Championship we can't afford to go without a Duffy style player.

I don't see us doing a Sunderland at all. There are no similarities between us. Unless we have a mad sale and sack Wilder everything suggests we will be up there next season. Important to avoid a humiliating points tally though as that will hang over the entire club.
