Planning for the Championship

We missed shit loads of chances even the season we went up. Mcgoldrick could have had 30 that season but hopefully Brewster can remedy that next season. McBurnie should be good at Championship level but will need a few goals early doors to get his confidence up as it's likely he isn't going to get many, if any, this season. Weirdly I think we are well set up front for The Championship. Even Billy will be an asset.

The defence may need a rebuild if Egan and/or JOC goes but the main position we need to get right is midfield. Lundstram and Berge will go and Norwood and Fleck are getting to an age where injuries will be more common so there's a lot that needs to be done there. We desperately need a creative midfielder. Even in The Championship we can't afford to go without a Duffy style player.

I don't see us doing a Sunderland at all. There are no similarities between us. Unless we have a mad sale and sack Wilder everything suggests we will be up there next season. Important to avoid a humiliating points tally though as that will hang over the entire club.

Couldn't agree more. Even in terms of midfielders, I suspect if we go down Freeman comes back and potentially plays a part. I know he hasn't set the world a light at Forest, but he should really suit that role and has ideal attributes.

Everything suggests that a midfield 3 of
Norwood, Fleck and Freeman should be competitive. McBurnie and Brewster should be more than capable of scoring, add to that our older strikers and the likes of Burke. Surely we have a capable side in the championship.

It's easy to feel doom and gloom, as we do have the worst points total ever. Do I think we're the worst team ever? No, not at all. Our performances haven't been great, but we could easily be sat on at least 5 points just now. Still not poor, but not the horror show it looks. Chelsea aside, I don't think anyone else will feel they got an easy win against us.

Whether people like the OP or not we're coming up to the transfer window.

Where we are at that point will determine our strategy and if we haven't picked up notably, then planning for relegation will undoubtedly come into the mix.

Wilder has regularly talked about the club having plans for every eventuality and even said before the start of last season that we had one for going straight back down.

The unknown this time I guess is that we're less sure about whether the Prince will stick with Wilder.

Should relegation happen, I can't see us being able to keep Egan. JOC will remain our player purely because of his injury. Berge will likely leave because he will attract interest and be worth some £££ and I think CW (if still here) will look to cash in on Moussett.

I dont think any PL teams will be interested in the rest of them.

Should we get relegated we have to stick with CWAK. They have proved beyond all reasonable doubt (to use court parlonce) that they can get us promoted. To be fair this season is heading the way of Betis's worst expectations for last season. The plan he said was if we went down that we would have an improved team presumably to build it up season on season like Burnley have. Norwich are doing fine in the Championship despite a season welded to the bottom of the Prem.

So that leads us to what team we would have next season. Obviously we will lose Sander Berge possibly Egan, maybe JOC if he puts in some decent perfomances once he returns towards the end of the seaon.

But if Bryan starts to get game time and learn the position he could benefit from a year in the Championship, Ramsdale will be staying and as a young keeper improving, with the money from Berge and Egan / O'Connel (if they leave) we should be able to improve the midfield and defence. We will keep Billy, Didzy, McBurnie, Burke, Brewster and possibly Mousset so have good fire power for the championship. We have cover with Osborne and both the Derby wingbacks can get game time and improve. Hassan Ayari may be blooded. So I don't see a huge problem unless we lose Chris Wilder.

We will also have massively improved facilities and if necessary 2 years of parachute payments to keep the core of the squad together.

All this is worse case. I Kind of gave up on staying up after yesterday but it's not a forgone conclusion. But plan for the worse and hope for the best is all we can do.

Berge won’t stick around in the league below. Plus he’s our most value asset ££ wise. He’ll excel in a team who play possession-based football and we’ll all be left wondering what could’ve been.

Egan will attract interest from a lower mid-table team as he’s proven himself at this level.

Could see Moose going back to France which would probably be a good move for him.
