I've just watched a youtube video of Beattie from 2007, and he scored a lot of pen's that season. Who do we think will take them this year? assuming we ger any ;)

Collins takes a good penalty. I'd let him take them.

Always hated the idea of a defender taking penalties. And ddespite the fact you have some great midfield penalty takers aroundthe world, for me it must be a striker. Every striker should be confident of converting a penalty, its the easiest chance they'll get. I vote for Porter.

It may be before your time but Tony Kenworthy only missed 2 penalties and took around 17 ( I think).

Incidentally Kenworthy scored 34 league goals in his United career which must be a record for a defender.

Steve Bruce used to take man utds hardly missed. My vote is for porter or taylor though

Was that the game which we won and Hodges scored?

Yup. Hoyland threw the other one in, Bruce hit the post with a pen, Giggs scored a belter, Man U wore the colours that the anti-Glazer protesters wear now, and Motty called Hodges left foot 'magic'.

One of those childhood memories that I wish today's kids could share.

I reckon Brandy will win us the penalties this season.

Id hope Taylor or Miller when fit would be taking the penalties.

Yep and he moaned and moaned at the ref to have it retaken, presumably because he missed!

He had a point. The ball wasn't on the spot when he took it and Gayle was standing in the area pointing this out when the pen was taken. It follows that the pen should have been re-taken had he scored (as the ball wasn't on the spot) or if he missed (because Gayle was in the area).

Very lawyerly Dazzler but I bet he wouldn't have wanted to take it again if he'd have scored!

I'm sure he wouldn't, but according to the laws of the game, the ref should have stopped him taking it until the ball was on the spot and Gayle was out of the area. As the pen was taken, it should have been re-taken whether he scored or not.

If I remember rightly, if you look at the footage, Bruce sees that Gayle is pointing out the ball is not on the spot and hurries to take the pen before the ref can stop him, so he probably was looking to gain an advantage by having the ball slightly closer to the goal. You could say that even if strict legal justice was not done, poetic justice was :-)

Lyle Taylor looks like he'd like to take them. He took a free kick from 25yrds or so after just coming on so..

Also think he'll be the prefered striker soon as Porter let me down the other night. I've defended him saying give him chances - he had two glorious ones and squandered both
