Agreed, though Rodwell was signed on a short contract, maybe wilder had this up his sleeve for a while, and wanted to guarantee cover should this not come off.

Rodwell won't be on a lot of money, and it's not a long term deal, so I wouldn't say pointless. Think of his deal as an extended trial period, a little like Morrison's.

If we end up with both Rodwell and Retsos both fulfilling their potential and becoming world-beaters, it would be a nice problem to have.

Signing players like Rodwell and Robinson is just CWAK's way of strengthening the squad as a whole and not just the starting 11. Jags is unlikely to be here next season so Retsos (if he plays well and signs on a perm) will likely be his replacement / competition for Egan and Bash. It's all about the endgame!

TBF the rumours on Berge were much stronger and 72hrs ago who would have thought we were in for one let alone 2 or 3 of this level off player signings. Plus he seems to have a chequered past like Morrison.

Wrong player? Retsos has had some bad injury luck but haven't seen anything re: off-field issues like Morrison.

Berge is currently hot property and highly rated whereas the other two were in that category but have badly gone off the boil, so both players should be hungry to revive their careers. Berge will be better than what we have, Retsos should be a really big asset and he can play any position In defence.
Where as Zivkovic is more like bringing in a younger Ravel Morrison, loads of talent but his career is going no where, so it’s just a punt.

The Dutch striker Zivkovic was hot property when he was 17.
He was that good that all the big European clubs (including Real Madrid and Barcelona) were monitoring him but since being 18 his career has gradually gone downhill.
He’s now 23 and it seems he’s at the cross roads regards having a career in football. So wouldn’t get too excited...altho he is quick so might make a great sub.

Retsos was hot property when he was 19 years old, captain of Olympiakos (the youngest in their history) and breaking into the Greek National team.
He was that highly rated that Bayer Leverkusen paid nearly £16 million for a teenager. He did well in the German league in his 1sr year but then picked up a long term injury in training when he was 20 and he’s now down the pecking order and not looking likely to get in their side.
