Then you would of lost the club money? .

If Paddy was on £14k like was reported, we could have sacked him straight away, it would have been approx 50 weeks - Totalling £700k. So not exactly loads different.

Do we for one second believe that he's been on 14k while serving his ban? Really?

Guesty; Chesterfield hadn't paid a drugs cheat for a year to do fuck all.

Harsh to the extreme. Paddy is hardly a cheat. Brainless I'll grant you but not a cheat.

Maradona - now there is a cheat. Hand of God and a positive drug test during the World Cup in USA in '94.

Paddy is a choir boy in comparison. Besides, if SUFC didn't want to sell him for that money then he wouldn't have had that clause in the contract.

Ok, so if we accept he didn't cheat but rather cretinously put himself out of action for an entire season, we still paid him for absolutely nothing when we were we within our rights to sack him, and now we're not even allowed to be angry that he wants to leave us having paid us back by playing two whole games.

He was lucky to have a contract at all after getting banned for a year. It seems we've been bent over backwards and done up the wrong un.

700k if he stayed an those terms but he didn't. It was massively reduced, we got a few games out of him (therefore not paying for another emergency loan or crazy loan wages), and now we also get a fee. I think we are getting more back for him now, plus the club would of been painted as the bad guy by the fans if we sacked him for taking cough syrup.

Unfortunately, Paddy's record reads the same as Maradona. Brainless yes, but in the eyes of the powers that be, they are treated the same.

So on to Paddy's loyalty... I'm not sure how much truth there are in the rumours, but they're obviously gathering pace. There has been arguements about Killa's and Monty's loyalty running for most of last season. But for me Paddy is the player that really needs to show some loyalty. We gave him a new contract, when many clubs would've and probably should've sacked him.

Paddy himself made comments post match when he came back stating how please he was with the support he received. Well in my opinion he was lucky to get that support. He has been loyal to us and I think he got that support because of his previous loyalty to the club and the raport that he has built up with the fans. If it'd been one of the more recent or less influencial players then they wouldn't have got the same support.

But I think if Paddy goes, then he won't be greeted with the warmth he has received.

Of course QPR can offer big bucks and certainly more ambition than us, but sometimes a player needs to look beyond that.

Any reason as to why not?

I would suppose not, other than mentions in articles of a drastically reduced contract.

Let's look at it this way, and all sarcasm about the Pieman aside, do you think it's realistic that we gave Paddy the same wages but we were happy to put a 750k clause in there with no dispensation on Paddy's part?

Sod that, if Paddy goes and then Blackwell follows that would be good for me :)

SS would be a great replacement, I'd love it to be true but can't see it.

Simmonson would be a good replacement, but what are the chances?

It's who we end up getting that worries me.

When was it massively reduced? At the end of his contract? When he re-negotiated? When the drugs ban took effect? When he was suspended?

I've seen no evidence to suiggest he took a pay cut until his new contract kicked in, which for me will have been when he agreed his new deal. But do you think his agent was naive enough to allow the new contract to take precedence before the current one finishes.

So thats Paddy on his way out, and Naysmith and Monty still not renewed yet.

One heck of a rebuilding program then if you have to buy a WHOLE squad of players for next season.

"We tried to keep him but ......", "we tried to sign another few but ......." , "the world cup hampered our preperations", "oh well, there's always thew loan market"

what an aboslute farce. We are in June (well over a week after that play off final) and we've singed fuck all. In fact we're selling one of best players. That leaves us with 15 contracted players (of which half are deadwood and the rest struggled with injury). There's talk of 2 or 3 other going too.

This is slowly starting to turn into a disaster. I said I would reserve judgement until July time, but I am really starting to get nervous.

We didn't negotiate the new contract till about March though wasn't it?

But yes I do think they would have carried on paying him the same, because as McCabe says, when an agent does something, the club are powerless ;)

Obviously we should never compare ourselves to other teams, but there have been 2 or 3 signings thus far overall in the Championship so why are we pissing our pants in worry?

Pretty sure the new contract was signed on reduced term which kicked in straight away as Kenny didn't know if we were going to sack him at that point.

Because people seem to get a kick out of pissing themselves.

The dirty pissy bastards.

Because we probably have a smaller squad than anyone else.
We are about to lose 2 more today.

Yet pre season is a long way away so what difference does even signing anyone now mean?

We've signed Morgs to a long term contract, and Monty looks like going the same way.

Most players are on holidays now anyway so it's difficult to get any business done.

If it's like this in around 6 weeks, THEN I'm more than happy to let my bladder go in my kecks too.

Come on though. Do you really think Paddy would have accepted such a low contract without a release clause around that level? Paddy's agent had to insist on a clause around 750k because few clubs wouldn't pay around a million for a 32 year old, notorious for personal issues who had only played a couple of games in around a year.

There's a reason why it's Neil Warnock and QPR who are in for him, and not a Premier side sniffing around a solid keeper for a low fee. If Warnock didn't get the job at QPR, we'd still have Paddy going into next season.

Actually, I think it's extremely likely Paddy would have accepted pretty much anything to have his contract extended in the circumstances he was in.

I've just checked and he signed his new contract in November, not March like I thought.

It depends I suppose what his wages went to if he did indeed reduce his wages.

It can't have been by a massive amount, because if it had been, he may as well have just sat on his contract

I'm sure there's an irony in that comment given how easily we can sell players during this difficult period. Can't quite put my finger on it.

I disagree. Could have got a new club easily at the end of his contract. The fee was the only thing in the way. Hence the low wage and 750k clause.

Have we sold anyone yet Len?

Really? I think QPR have made that number themselves during this difficult period.
I don't think anyone's pissing their pants with worry. Most people no longer give a fuck.
The best bet for United would now be complete financial meltdown and ideally administration. A fresh start and a complete rejuvenation under new ownership.
Anything would be better than this slow death by a thousand cuts.

No, but it's not even 11am yet....

Quite. Any agent who advised Paddy not to sign a new deal and let his contract run out, given the position he was in at the time, would have been borderline negligent.

Agree with most of that, although I think a new manager would be worth a go first.

Christ almighty. You used to post some loopy stuff on BU, but that is a whole new level.

Is it 'eck.
What is the point of this long drawn out firesale to pay money to our glorious owner who got us in this hole in the first place?
Nothing at SUFC has anything to do with football any more. It's just a balance sheet exercise.
FFS we got £20m from Tevez, £20 ferking million, and yet we find ourselves in this frankly pathetic close season position again.
The scale of mismanagement is breathtaking.
