We need some on the bench for when teams park the bus.

We've had a fantastic season so far but Bruce was very canny tonight and knew exactly how to set up. In situations like this we need something different from the bench. CW knows this and that's why he brought in Morrison but for whatever reason it's not worked out.

I suspect a tricky midfielder will be very near the top of our transfer window shopping list and that our excellent scouting system will have a few players targeted. Eze at QPR and Benrahama at Brentford would be top of my list.
 



We have needed pace for a while but we do already have players with tricks in their locker.
 
Nearly any other game Mousset would be starting. That's pace and trickery.

Freeman is a good sub.

I would like cover for Mousset though.

I would also like us to consider starting an attacking midfielder occasionally.
 
I’ve mentioned on the other thread that tonight has just highlighted the weakness in our system that has been there for 3 years.
Think back to the Fleetwood game in league 1 or the Sheff Wed and Birmingham games in the Championship.
Those teams never even tried to compete in midfield.....they let us totally control the centre circle but formed a wall on the edge of their areas.
These teams “parked the bus” and although we dominated we hardly creates a single good chance.

The way to beat a packed defence is either
1: Cheap option: Buy a big physical lump who can stand on the penalty spot and cause havoc, think this can work in the lower leagues but not the PL.
2: Expensive option: Buy someone who can dribble and run at defenders creating his own chances from nothing.
3: Often in these cases players try long range shots from outside the area.....that’s something we’ve never tried under Wilder.

However bear in mind that in league 1 most teams will park the bus against us.
but in the PL it’s very rare that a team will be as negative/ defensive as Newcastle.
So I suspect we’ll be fine, games will be more open and tonights struggles won’t occur that often.

We 100% need to start either Freeman or McGoldrick behind a front two against the weaker teams especially at home. We have nothing to fear against the majority of the Premier League.

Yes it would probably be harsh on the midfielder who is dropped, but that’s football.

Wilder bought James Hanson to deal with this problem when we were in League One.

We need another Mousset type option, however we didn’t even know we had a Mousset option in the summer transfer window as he was a punt. In time we’ll get another. I just don’t think we’ll drop as lucky again finding a cheap gem.

Sadly we seem more interested in Watkins from Brentford but either of the two you mentioned would be more to my liking especially Benrahama.

Benrahma and Watkins would be too expensive for my liking.

The one I'd be happiest to go big on would be Karlan Grant. Imagine knowing we have at least one of him and Mousset on the pitch all the time?
 
Ricky why not Eze, too expensive or wont come north ? Grant could be a good shout...but I also thought Robinson was and hes not really worked out. The step up from the championship to the premiership is big up front and I m not sure the likes of Watkins or Grant will handle it any better than McBurnie or Robinson have so far.

Maybe CWAK have another unknown to pull out of the hat, whatever the transfer window promises to be an exciting one for us.

We've got McBurnie who can do that role I think. He doesn't win as much in the air as say a Matt Smith but McBurnie is more of a goal threat in my view, as proved by last season's record. Awaits ridicule!

Good shout. I reckon in the summer, assuming we stay up, we might go after Bowen. That might be just about possible, if not someone maybe from abroad. Freeman hasn't had much time though and its difficult to criticise someone with so little playing time and then expecting him to dance round three or four was somewhat unrealistic last night. His passing was poor though, there is a very good player there, we all know that.

The London PL clubs want him and there's just no reason he'd sign for us.

Grant has already proven himself PL capable. That's another thing in his favour. He scored 4 and looked a real threat for that terrible Huddersfield team.

If we want to look abroad Hwang Hee-Chan from Salzburg would be worth pushing the boat out for. But unrealistic for January.

Slavia player on loan at Jablonec. Attacking midfielder with 6 goals from 12 games this season. Remember seeing him last season playing for an incredibly weak Pribram team. One of the very few opposition players who I watched last season who had me worried in the first 5 minutes. He then showed why I was worried by setting up 2 and scoring 1.

What’s that Ojo bloke doing these days? He wor bloody good for Fulham 2 years back.

He might look like a honey badger but so what? Him and Robinson could be mated and we’d have a very bright future!
