Maybe, but he needs to make better subs than the baffling ones he made last season, and quicker too. He also needs to be willing to abandon plan A when it isn't working and have a plan B, instead of sticking with plan A when it doesn't work, make strange subs and stick with plan A, as clearly different players will now make it work. I'm not knocking the guy, but it's his biggest weakness as a manager and nearly lost us promotion last season when we went on an awful run with Boro breathing down our necks.

As long as he doesn’t do what Wilder used to when things weren’t working and throw every striker on and hope something drops we’ll be okay.

Then again, we don’t have a striker spare

Yes, only finishing checks notes 11 points ahead of third and 16 points above Boro

Heckingbottom got out of jail on numerous occasions last year, when a moment of magic from one of our creative players would win us a game in which we were terrible (and there were a lot of those). He won't have that this year.

I don't think we're very strong in the manager department, although I hope I'm wrong as I really like the bloke and he is going to have to work miracles for us to survive with this squad.

They did catch up with us, I didn't say they overtook us in the end, but thanks for reading my post and taking it at face value with the meaning it was intended to convey. They did close the gap and catch up with us at one point, or did I make that up? That's the part of the season I'm referring to and Hecky played a part in that with his stubborness in sticking to his tactics when they weren't working, and picking consistently poor performing out of form players.

must be a bigger problem for boros manager as they fell away as we pulled away again despite his strange subs which only won us 8 of our last 10 games

those creative players hecky had coached you mean

doyle mcatee and ndiaye owe all thats all of their progress last year was down to his tuition
ndiaye had not one assist to his name until hecky trained him
ask pep if hecky did bring doyle and mcatee on in leaps and bounds

Alot have said that we are the secret weapon, and normally we are.

However can't help feel it might be a bit subdued on Saturday. Unless we keep in the game and even win (We are not going to I'm quite sure).

Hecky though deserves praise alone for just taking it all on the chin and trying to remain positive. Board/owner need to be gone, they are nearly making it look like missing out on Mauriss owning us was a bad thing!

I agree, but those type of players aren't here to coach this time around. Even if we manage to get some creative players in before the end of the window, it'll be a completely different kettle of fish with the lowest budget in the league.

but they were all at the stage osula and jebbison and hackford are
hes like mr meage training Danielsan ,
wax on wax off and hey presto we stay up

Hecky appears to be a pragmatist. The signings suggest that we are going for a solid rather than expansive approach , be hard to beat and look to counter. To a great extent we took that approach post world cup.. we edged our way through games and gathered points . I'm not suggesting a park the bus approach . And he'll get it wrong from time to time and learn on the job at this level but i absolutely trust the guy to give us a chance

They were above us after the first game, shows how good Hecky is

Norwoodinator 3

Time for the third reincarnation. Each incarnation he has been our saviour when we have been lost. Might not last the full season and may 'get found out' but he will hit the ground running and dictate from the middle again, while the rest get up to gear.

Overlapping CBs return to some degree for his triangle moves and wingback switches. Souza to protect him. Souza, Slimane, McBurnie and our CBs all causing havoc from Norwoods deep crosses and setpieces should see him get a decent amount of assists.

Currently our best known leader outside Egan and Baldock who will lead our system for the start of 23/24.

Dictate from the middle? You mean as in pointing at everyone else to do the stuff that he can't do anymore?

the story so far

so if we sign 2 more we will have spent of the 31m incoming which discounts the hecky wont get the money argument
and dont forget we have to pay agent fees and any loan fees

After Hecky our greatest asset is our fans.

So as the close season comes to a close are we all happy with the positive approach our fans have shown on here.

There's no doubting they closed the gap on us, but every team has a blip and that was ours. It's easy to say that he was stubborn and nearly cost us promotion, but if you say that you have to also give him credit for the way we finished from mid March onwards pulling ahead of third place and winning promotion with 3 games to spare. That was down to his tactics too.

Haha I mean he was top of all the stats across all players after about 30-35 games last season. So guess he would be top of the pointing too
Souzza could make a big difference to Norwood? I know that this will be controversial, but I would personally start Neal in front of him. But that is my (probably unpopular) opinion.

What £ is Hecky on a season, there was rumours in 2017/18 that Sunderland wanted to take him out of his Barnsley contract for £750,000 a year plus add ons. Not that its any of my business or anything but be interesting to know how he compares to the salary of other Premier League & Championship managers.

Neal and Souza together who don't know how to play Heckys system. Leaving norwood out who knows it best? Until we get better players in attack Norwood (if fit) will be the main player to link what we have remaining together.
