So Robbie what's the solution? I thought their gamelan worked tonight, fair enough they got a point.

So what should wilder do? Are the signings the answer?

Whether the signing are the answer or not, only time will tell.

As for Wilder, he needs to be able to change his formation to deal with teams who match ours and/or sit back. For me, I think in games like today, we'd be better only having one striker on and having another midfielder in the middle. Brooks would have been perfect, but sadly not available. The only times we created any space were when Clarke or Wilson came back into midfield and pulled players with them. We did not do enough of that and no one was running into the gaps left to capitalise.

Our two strikers were essentially marked out of it. because they had numbers behind the ball, every ball into strikers was hopeful. I would have taken Donaldson off and put Leonard on. Had 3 central midfielders on the pitch, ran at them from deep and tried to work space to get shots in. With that many players behind the ball, you can easily get deflections, kind bounces and unsight the keeper. We were too slow and our passing was poor. They crowded us out.

Would it not have counted if it went in? Why does it matter whose foot/head it came off?

We didn’t play well tonight but we were still by far the better team and Wednesday fans know that they were clinging on against the ‘pub team’. We’ve shown them.

Not as a shot on target, no. As it wasn't a shot on target.

I agree and I think that's why wilder has signed the players he has, I agree he probably should have brought Leonard on, if the match had been a week or two later I'm sure he would have.

Bad day at the office, but by no means a disaster

The issue is we're playing outstanding league one football in the championship, we were promoted with 100+ points for a reason but we need to adapt. Our recent "bad form" is simply that we haven't properly adapted to the more defensive teams/games that you get in the championship. Let's hope wilder can see that and that the new faces will spark some change.

...yes, after battering them like that I’m sad we didn’t win. But...

They’ve had the drop on us for six years. Millions spent, done nowt. This season, we were supposed to get spanked by everyone, we’ve done better than them. They were supposed to do us at the rust bucket, we thrashed them. Today, after all that, they turned up to a derby looking for 0-0 from the first minute.

Fair play, they got it. But that’s what their ambitions are now. Ours, by contrast, are to win and move on.

The six years head start has gone. We are on top. Tonight showed that the city really is ours.

Derby matches are often frustrating and it is not unusual for the poorer side to do better than expected.

In our 1970-1 promotion season we were a very good side. Wednesday were not a good side. Probably the upper end of poor. We took the equivalent of 4 points from them that season. Same as this season. Both matches were pretty tight although in the first one we got a good start but it ended up being a closer score line than it should have been.

The scheduling was the opposite way round that season. In other words we played at Bramall Lane first. Around the same time of year that we played at Hillsborough this season. We won that match 3-2 after being 2-0 up. In the return game at Hillsborough we drew 0-0. A match we were expected to win.

Obviously, there were no internet forums in those days. But if there had of been I would hazard a guess that there would have been a lot of angst among our supporters following the 0-0 draw and there would have been jubilation amongst their supporters that they had defied the odds and got a point.

But the fact remains that we were better than them and our league position showed it. We kicked on from there and got promoted, because we were a good side. They drifted about and finished lower mid table, just out of a relegation fight, because they weren't a good side.

The current Wednesday squad on paper looks strong, but it has not gelled into a good side. They are currently 15th. Probably about where they finished in 1970-1.

But so far, over the course of this season we have shown that we are better than them. Yes, they came to Bramall Lane with a weakened side and got a point. But they did not win. We went to Hillsborough and taught them a footballing lesson. We became the first side in a Sheffield derby to score 4 goals in the away league fixture and that just adds gloss to our history, because we are still the only side in a Sheffield derby to score 7 in a league or cup game.

funny isn’t it.. we were supposed to be relegation fodder.. now they’re jumping around because they hung on for a nil nil and we’re in the top 6 committing suicide
reality check?

I don't think we dominated. I think we were the home team against a side set up to defend deep and got on the counter. What they did is a legitimate tactic for the situation they faced.

There was no surprise in how they played. Anybody who understands anything about football knew this was not going to be a case of us destroying them. Yes, we missed a good chance to get a win, given their form and injuries, but they were obviously going to have learnt from bouncing day, and keep it tight etc.

We had most of the positve play, but tried a pass too many at times, and lacked quality when needed (as Wilder pointed out). We also didnt use the free kicks and corners well enough, which is often how tight games are settled.

I do agree though, them celebrating a 0-0 at the pub team shows how sh1t their season has been.
