On the brink of turning my back for good.

It's not odd in the slightest for me, he's lost a yard of pace which is vitally needed at left back, so he's moved into the centre. He's capable of playing well there and we did see it for a while... problem is, a partnership of him and Collins is too slow, needs one of those two plus a younger, quicker centre back.

Surprised anyone thinks EITHER of them are good enough. Performances from the pair in recent years suggests that they are both simply not good enough for a promotion side. I could cope with Mceveley as a cover player at left back or centre back maybe playing 10 games at most a season due to injury but if we have either of these players as regulars this season we will be a long way off promotion. Staggered Adkins has gone into the season with either of them starting but to have both in the key and most important area of any team really is frightening.

For me it is not about youth v experience. Its having players good enough to do the job. We need someone who can win headers, command and get the defence moving up and out.

It's the recruiting that continues to baffle me. Forwards signed when we needed defenders. Indifferent to Billys return, I hope he will be a success but, surely there were others we could have looked at. Steve Davies or Sammon ?, neither really but, at least Davies had gotten a feeling of the club and had scored one or two for us, for Sammon read Higdon. Ebanks-Blake anyone ?, proven record but ends up where ? I'm sure we'll be talking more about him after the next home game.

Not saying either are good enough long term, but if we're playing at least one of them, they need a differ type of player alongside.

You don't need to be that pacy to play full back if you've a decent head on you. Look at David Unsworth for example, slow as an ox but rarely got skinned. Wouldn't be against moving McEvely there but I still think Harris is a better option. Ideally we'd bring in two centre halves and a left back. No problem with Freeman until Brayford is back and fit.

It's worthy of note for all the flouncers and wrist slashers, that the famous promotion season of 70-71, which us older folk often cream our pants to, started off with a sequence of LWLDD, beginning with a hefty defeat at mighty Orient. The rest, as they say....
Now I'm not comparing this current shower with Woody TC, Badge and the rest of those heroes, but come on, wait just a tad longer before you flounce off into the sunset sobbing unto your Blades hankies :)

Did the 70-71 season start knowing that there was a great big black hole in the centre of defence, if it did then I'll take some crumbs of comfort from it. If it didn't I'll continue to think we are weeks behind where we should be.

its bad when , that was disappointing doesnt begin to cover it
I am sat in my house in Spain thinking I dont need this, theres plenty of other distractions
watching the live games , preston and boro bored me shitless
Arsenal didnt turn up
Liverpool used the tracey to Deane attack route , but obviously with much more quality theyd argue
Minge Ole humping 60 yard bombs to Ben Tekki

football is fast losing any appeal

I don't blame anyone for giving up on this sack of sh@t.
After many many years of going home and away I just stopped going. I wasn't living in Sheffield at the time which made it a bit easier.
I actually denied them many times. People used to find out I was from Sheffield and they'd always ask if I was United or Wendy and I'd say neither they're both crap. When I look back I realise that it gave me great satisfaction to not give a monkeys f@ck about them, it really was like being released from a prison sentence. It was like giving up a disgusting habit like smoking.

Sadly I ended up back in Sheffield after a few years and picked up on the dozy tw@ts again............big mistake because I find that I'm a miserable c@nt again.

I've now made myself a promise that I will play golf every Saturday whilst the match is on, and work late every mid week day when a game is on until I break this disgusting habit once again.

I thought the Chelsea v Swansea game was decent yesterday. Swansea unlucky not to win.

I really don't think that's the moral of the tale...

Finally watched the game. The Gills had a lot of kick and rush and a lot of hustle while we were still playing a friendly. Was not Collo and JMc who lost the game, almost none put in a real shift;been reading too many press releases and forgot that you have to earn the points. Flying over from Canada I will not be happy to see a repeat of that against Chess. Still a fan, tickets bought.

Be good to see you again my friend! :)

Isn't it very early days Deadbat? Last season we went "into the season" with Alcock and Mc Gahey and never really sorted the central defence in 10 months. Isn't it early days yet and isn't it possible Adkins has a couple of irons in the fire? He's only been here since June 2nd hasn't he? Would you agree it's sometimes better to await certain player situations developig rather than act in haste?

Adkins said yesterday that he insists upon 6 main men attacking the ball at set-pieces, the words left unsaid were that there weren't anywhere near that, maybe none. Let me say, Joe Shaw our very own legend would not have been one of those six. It's a team game though and the manager knows what is required.

Those twats from Chesterfield will likely turn us over next week.

For 'Those twats from Chesterfield' read 'a bunch of highly-paid athletes whose job is on the line every time they step on the pitch.' United, as a team, have lost the plot. Instead of wasting pre-season time playing friendlies against the likes of Cheltenham, Ilkeston etc. why not emulate the Ashes-winning England cricket team? They recognised their weakness (i.e. fielding) and went off to Spain for intensive practice sessions to put it right. A thread of complacency has been allowed to grow throughout this club. When we have a shocking result as we had (again) on Saturday, some are too quick to come on here and criticise the fans' lack of loyalty.

On Saturday, I decided that a long trip to Gillingham, around £70 spent and the result most of us suspected didn't compare with how I chose to spend my afternoon. Sat in the garden with a £5 bottle of wine. Who's the mug? I'll be there next Saturday - my 53rd year of watching this rubbish - but it doesn't make me less of a fan. With age comes experience.

I wonder how many would be on "on the brink of turning their backs for good" if Murphy is sold to Brighton

You're still posting about them JJ. You won't be free until you put them completely out of your mind. Don't look at the results, don't think about them and don't post about them.
I almost did it over the Ched business but my mate talked me into going to the Fulham game, then of course being local, I had to go to the replay. Then Miller scored and it had got me again. Bastard.

It is only one game ,to say you give up on them is drastic and ridiculous. Ive got a box of Man up tablets if anyone wants one.

Aren't these "man up tablets"? :D
