I might be way off but I don't think brownie means giving up on the Blades altogether, but just not having the same amount of buy in as previously. I say that cause I feel similar.

Number of reasons for me and there will be something that sparks off the passion in me again this season I'm sure, but at the minute it seems way off.

Similar to Brownie, as a cricket fan I have had three glorious months of watching two teams (YCCC and England) play with skill, flair, passion and most of all enjoyment. Sportsmen who don't always get it right but who never shirk from a challenge and come accross as real stand out guys against a backdrop of decent support 100 per cent behind them. Then you move onto this afternoon.

Over the last 12 months with United, you have had convicted rapists, druggies, fans at each others throats, players paid a small fortune for being decidedly fucking average, a team bereft of leadership and passion and owners who have less of a fucking clue than the clowns at the ECB.

Yes I'm a Blade, yes I know the passion WILL reignite but today has underlined for me, like the OP, that it's not quite there for me at the minute. You know why? We lost 4 bastard nil to Gillingham and I don't really feel that pissed off, my weekend isn't ruined.

It's the not caring that's got me.

UTB as ever.

Similarly with me.

Obviously I've no intentions just yet of packing it in going to watch the blades but my interest and excitement I used to have travelling to the lane is rapidly fading for every unconvincing move the board or previous managers have taken. Tonight (or last night) being one of them.

It's just the lack of effort that has got to me tonight, nothing worse than players who only give 50%.

Have just seen a rather grainy coverage of the goals on YouTube. On Radio Sheffield NA questions Giddins about blaming the central defenders for the goals. Well it seemed to me that the first three resulted from set pieces. I hope that comment was due to his policy of not criticizing players in public and not some blind belief that those players were blameless for those goals.

Back to the OP - the club should be concerned about this. Watching the Blades is a habit for many of us. Once you get out of any habit you realise just how much you don't miss it. Reading the OP I expected there to be replies of 'not being a true Blade'. Instead the vast majority agree.

Now Nige 3 may tell the board that it's the chimp controlling the irrational side of our minds that is causing this reaction. Well that's as maybe but for those who haven't committed to a season ticket the temptation to do something else may be greater and those fans could be lost for a long time.

ive spent the last 3 months engrossed by the endless diet of cricket on the telly, and enjoyed every single minute of it, and not missed the football season one little bit.

It's actually caught me unaware a little bit, went to the Newcastle pre-season friendly, purely because an old friend who rarely goes asked me if I was going and I only went to catch up with him more than anything.

Then it has started, I renewed my season ticket at the back end of last season, Christ knows why because with the notable exception of the Tottenham game the only match I have attended in 2015 that I have enjoyed was a trip to Edinburgh for the Hibs v Hearts local derby.

Earlier on I didn't really feel any hope or expectation of a good season. More or less half expecting to be here attain, in this godforsaken division next season under yet another new manager, making the same old sound bites, but never actually doing anything positive.

All we have had is more and more spin from Jim Phipps who drinks with the fans, engages with the fans on social media, and drinks with the fans in the sanitised atmosphere of the Copthorne but for all his sound bites as a club we have not gone forward.

The transfer dealings have been shocking, a hopefully inadequate job lot of piss poor defenders haven't been drummed out of the club. McFadzean is pretty much Worksop Town standard player, and is not up to required standard and will not be as long as I have for a hole in my arse. Collins has 3 years too many on the books, he is part of the problem rather than part of the cure. Jay McEveley was far and away our worst defender for the last 4 months of last season, yet he gets a new contract, and not only that but he also gets made fucking club captain, and then last of those, Kieron Freeman, I spoke briefly to a mate earlier and said I was gonna watch the goals going to see how many he was culpable for by either not putting a tackle in, or being woefully out of position, and guess what, for Gillinghams 4th, Dack just walks straight past him with the ball, Freeman is supposed to be a fucking defender, yet he spent the first half of last season barely able to get a game for Mansfield bastard Town.

Then back to the incoming players. Billy Sharp has made a career out of two good seasons at Scunthorpe ten years ago, he might be a Blade, but then so am I but you wouldn't me playing up front for us would you. You can ignore all this Billy Blade bullshit, I fucking guarantee he wouldn't be here if we paid him what I think he is worth which is at the very most a grand a week. Connor Sammon belongs in the Irish League or Scottish lower leagues at the very best, and Woolford, the only coherent reason I can think that we have signed him is that he is one of Adkins bumboys. At least under Negative Nigel we got Derby old boys under Positive Nigel we get Scunthorpe old boys.

As for the rest of the squad, James Wallace is a fucking crock and which ever clown in the medical department who was responsible for him passing a medical needs sacking. Jose Baxter is a dirty little druggie who thinks he is better than he is, and I hope his next E is laced with rat poison.

I'm seriously thinking of turning my back after 30 years of going to watch a United week in, week out. I don't buy all the spin and bullshit peddled by Phipps and Adkins. Our Saudi investors aren't investing, McCabe has got what he wanted which is the freehold of the ground, and it wouldn't surprise me if he is making a tidy profit from the lease of the ground. Yet we the fans buy all the shit, spin and bullshit. Makes me think back to when we was a proper club, whose fans were second to none, and who wouldn't suffer fools gladly, yet we have turned in to a sorry bunch of sycophantic idiots who blindly follow all the bullshit that the club peddles.

I'm on the brink of deciding to fuck United off all together and find something else to do that will enhance my life on a Saturday afternoon, and you can guarantee that if we find ourselves in the same position this time next season I will not be there to watch.

#UnitedTogether sorry but that bullshit just doesn't wash with me.
Agree with your first 4 paragraphs, and the sentiment.

Personally had a great day in Kent yesterday - we took the kids to Margate.

I have to believe Adkins knows what he's doing and we will see a vastly different performance next week. I am pretty sure he knows that players like Murphy, Adams and Sharp need a solid platform to work from. If I didn't have this hope I am pretty sure I would be feeling the same way.

By the end of today I will be looking forward to Saturday and can just hope Adkins puts the 'reserves' out in the cup in the week.

It is only one game ,to say you give up on them is drastic and ridiculous. Ive got a box of Man up tablets if anyone wants one.

Yes it is only one game, but that's as bad as it gets. United don't do 'gentle let downs'. After the pre-season optimism, we got the biggest drubbing of the day and are bottom of the table. Yes, yes tables are ridiculous at this stage but, as a statement of intent, who wouldn't prefer to see us top rather than bottom? This is how last season went. 'Don't worry!' It's early days!' Except 5 games early in the season soon turns into ten and, before you know it, a quarter of the season is gone and we're playing catch-up. If we'd won 4-0 yesterday (don't laugh!), Chesterfield's entire approach next Saturday would have been different. As it is, they'll come looking for 3 points knowing that nothing's changed and we're still a soft touch. They'll chuck plenty of high balls into our area knowing that goals will result.

As well as 'gentle let downs', we also don't do 'new manager syndrome'. Fuck, Watford are on their fourth (fifth?) new manager in a year but don't have United's rabbits-in-the-headlights look every time a new manager comes in. This is down to years of 'sticking plaster' bollocks where 'loyal servants' such as Morgan are rewarded with a pivotal role in the club. Where players (the majority) who most fans can see are patently not up to it get new contracts, captaincy etc. The only possible solution to this slow death we're witnessing is a complete clear-out of the majority of the players but, of course, the season has now started and we're already in panic mode with nothing but (another) long winter in front of us.

As a caller on P & G said last night, 'We've got the new pitch, dug-outs, manager etc., but where are the CB's we all know we're crying out for?'

Got too many players who turn it on when they feel like it
Great in the cup v spurs and southampton
Non existent at yeovil and gillingham

Cant do the fundementals ,wont do the dark side of the game
No leaders ,captains a calamity ,keeper is a loud bang away from being straightjacketed
No heart no fight no fucking pride
Fuck off

Brownie I feel your pain. I wrote a message with similar tones albeit not as articulate after Swindon home leg. The new season and manager brought new optimism but that result and reported performance yesterday reminded me of why I wrote the post I did.

I feel for those fans who went yesterday. My mate wanted to go but I said it's too far to watch the Blades and I've been there before. (5.30 k.o, scored for peachy or chief ha trick) losing by such a margin with an inept performance which sounds not much of last season and then facing the gruelling trip home. Well done to all those that went.

Maybe just maybe this result will make Adkins realise the issues he has to overcome - that said such performances didn't make Clough realise the inadequacies of the squad.

Perhaps the new pitch has flaps built in that shoot up blocking our goal when the opposition get near it.

If we need a 4-0 pasting to make the manager realise what the fuck is he doing getting the job?

Those twats from Chesterfield will likely turn us over next week.

Thank fuck someone said it. It's akin to our lass having a strop when she's on the blob and I've forgot to do the pots.

Jose Baxter is a dirty little druggie who thinks he is better than he is, and I hope his next E is laced with rat poison.

And as for that. Well, sort your self out.

A school friend of mine announced he's got cancer yesterday at the age of 45. He's been told he's got between 4 months to 2 years left to live perhaps with a 5-10% chance of surviving if treatment works.
It's only a fucking game.
Not comparable

A bit harsh that Brownie, especially your opinions of our new players after just a single game. Many a team has got a hiding early in the season and gone on to win promotion. If we're just as shit after ten games, I'll back your opinion.
If after 10 games our points tally is worst than weirs effort, the sales of rope will dramatically increase.

I'm feeling the same way as Brownie, but I fell "it's MY fault".

Last season, I bought five season tickets from myself, my wife, my son, and his two boys.

Pre-season I stated that I would not renew, because my son has a shop in Lincoln which we need to close at 13:00 p.m. on Saturday match days (not much footfall after that time, usually), but mainly that the fare served up last season was so poor / boring that I didn't enjoy any game except the Tottenham match (our last game that we bothered to attend).

Anyway with all the positivity around the Adkins appointment, I decided on Saturday morning that as I am going to Sheffield area on Monday (tomorrow) I would pop down to the Lane and renew all five season tickets. As I was leaving the shop on Saturday (yesterday) afternoon, I told me son, and then added the words "provided, of course we don't get stuffed by Gillingham 4-0 this afternoon (my son's very first game was the 4-0 victory over them where Keith Edwards got all four)!

When the score got to 3-0, I texted my son and said I'd just get membership for us all, and tickets for next Saturday.

Now I shall NOT be going to the Lane tomorrow, and it's going to take some time for us to decide to go again.

Sadly

I'll still be a "supporter", but not a season ticket holder until this club sorts itself out

.

Have picked out the bit about defenders for a reason as it is the crux of our problem.
We might not agree on somethings but we do about the 4 defenders who played v Gills.
It is there for anyone and everyone to see who actually wants to look beyond a player in a R&W shirt to see what standards of defenders we have - poor.

Over to you Mr Adkins - get it sorted and quickly.
