As much as i am really pissed off about mondays defeat i expected it...but you live in hope but then reality checks in again.
I think blackwell staying on balance is the right decision...he has his faults and weaknesses but he has done some good things as well. He repaired the damage that was done by knobson. Getting Knobson in set the club back 3 years with his oap and expensive signings. Coming down from the premiership we had the squad to go back up with abit of tinkering and if we persuaded warnock to stay he would have done the job as he would have had money to spend. When he actually had money to spend he got us up straight away. Whether Blackwell can get us up depends on him improving himself as a tactician and is not worried by opposite teams and goes for it instead of playing not to lose.
Monday highlighted his weakness to change things around when things are not going our way. His stubborness to change players and system until right near the end has got to change. Good managers know when things are not going their way and act quickly..i remember Mourinho bringing on 3 subs after about 25 mins in one match for chelsea. He also always makes cotterill the scapegoat for the midfield/ forwards poor play. I know he was playing rubbish on monday but so was everyone else in midfield and up front apart from montgomery, but you know he will eventually set a chance up even if he is playing shit.
Now the 'ginga ninja' as someone was referring to in the crowd....I dont rate him and I think we should get rid. He is too small to be in the centre of the park, doesnt have much pace as witnessed when he was out run by linford christie wade elliott. He also gives the ball away too easily and has one good game every so often, yeah he scores the odd goal but still dont rate him but he must have some dodgy photos of blackwell or something to be getting a game week in week out. I would actually have a centre midfield partnership of monty and halford if we can get him.
I hope we dont sign o' toole as he seems to slow to get up and down the park. I would prefer to sign that kid from nottingham forest, i think he is called lewis mcgugan or someone like miles addison from derby..someone with presence and the engine and with ability.
The back five are fine but if we do have to sell someone i hope we sell kilgallon as he is getting into his mid 20's and he deserves to play premier league football. I think keeping naughton for 1 more season won't harm his development and would only sell him if we get a ridiculous offer instead of the £3 million being reported. Walker can partner morgan with naughton and naysmith as the full backs.
Up front we need to get rid of the dead wood and sign some strikers with the abilty to get goals for themselves. I know Lita has an attitude problem but he is a finisher and was still scoring for fun for norwich in a poor team. If we can also get beckford from leeds then thats a forward line set up.
The players we should release are bennet, haber, geary, quinn, carney, hendrie, weber, sell sharp back to scunthorpe.
We should not sign any of the loanees apart from halford.
If blackwell can start playing attacking football like we witnessed against preston in both games then i think we can have a promising season. If he is too scared to lose then we will witness the same kind of football seen this season gone.
We have the makings of a good team, it just needs the manager to step up his game abit and realise the mistakes made during this season.
