Ollie Norwood

If only he could take a free kick from outside the box and make it a foot lower 😂😂

We were saying the same on Saturday.

The number of times we get a free kick on the edge of the box.
You're tempted to get excited.....but when Norwood takes the free-kick its almost always a good foot or 2 foot over the bar.
Not even close to being a goal and never forces their keeper into a save.
We were saying....I wonder if the club thought about letting someone else take direct free kicks.

Yes but the one stuck in against Blackburn was great.

Bloody great player is Norwood. Detractors are usually folk who focus on something, no matter how small, that he can’t do rather than the 95% of him that does everything better than most midfield players we’ve had in the last 35 years. No one has been as key to the tempo of a team as this man. When we’ve been on song in the last 200 games it’s because of his nous.

Thanks Ollie.

There’s a bloke on our row who I can only assume has caught Oli with his Mrs every night for the last 15 years. Can’t bring himself not to slate him every week.

We’ll miss him when he’s gone. Oli that is.
So will his mrs

Never known a strike ratio as shit as Norwoods and you can lay money on it going over the bar. Should at the very least make the keeper save it, but to keep missing the target is so f’kin frustrating.

As good as he’s been this season I’m sure it’s time to let someone else have a pop.
Not being funny, but whoever it is can’t do any worse can they?

I’d even do better than Norwood

Slightly off piste but the Q & A reminds of one Steven Gerrard did while he was still playing. One fan apparently asked him if it was true that Luis Suarez could eat an apple through a letterbox.

I know that Egan has been a stalwart for many seasons but I honestly feel like Norwood is the captain of this team. He is a consistent top performer and is always vocal on the pitch. I always see him organising the lines for set pieces including against Hull.

I feel like he is the captain even without the band. Anybody else agree?

Yes, best pointer on the pitch :)

What a player this lad is!! One of the finest midfielders I've seen in my 35 years watching the Blades. Some of his passing is breathtaking. I cannot believe he gets some stick from our fans at times, the man is sheer quality. Enjoy him Blades, you only get to see players like him once in a generation.

Sat in BLUT last week, surrounded by a bunch of southern students, they were going "ooh" and "aah, what a pass" at everyone of Norwood's 50 yard passes that dropped to the feet of the wing back. Trouble is, because we see him do this a dozen times a game, every game, we think its just normal, but its not. Its extraordinary. Sometimes you need to see things with fresh eyes.

Oh well done, you've now given the football gods a problem they've been searching for to derail us now we're in such a commanding position. Norwood and Egan to fall out with each other over the captaincy causing the dressing room to split right in half, they put half the effort in for the rest of the season picking up a meagre 10 points.

;)

IF we get promoted Norwood will be important as a vintage player amid new vibrant players. I'd expect us to sign the 2 City lads for another loan year. Add a class signing and Ollie is under pressure to perform at the highest level. I'd say he can.
Our requirements would be a midfield monster and a good goal scorer.

Wilder made him team captain in the Premier League season (not club captain - Billy took over when he played). When I sat close to the touchline that season, it was really interesting to hear how much he shouted to JOC and Bash, telling them when to push forward and when to sit back (they listened, too).

Yeah. I can't believe I take it for granted. Really should appreciate this more. And everything else about his game.

He is just a very good footballer. Fantastic bit of business from United when they signed him. Can go missing in a game at times and can have the odd game where he is bloody awful, but he more than makes up for those bad days at the office with many more good days. A leader of men as well and always displays an excellent attitude (I think I read that he has never missed a training session since he turned professional - truly outstanding statistic that).

Hope we have him for a good few years yet.

He's quality, he makes us tick, and I hope we offer him a decent contract to reflect that.
I think he showed he can cut it at Premier League level during our first season, but he has to be played in the correct system for that to work. When we got it slightly wrong opposition defenders seemed to breeze passed him like he wasn't there - but that wasn't his fault entirely, he was exposed by our setup.
He will need better / more dynamic midfielders around him though if and when we go up.
And yes, he's captain material (I was only teasing when I said he was the best pointer at the club :p )

At least two or three times a game, I'll make a point of telling my lad to watch Norwood and what he does, usually in the phase of play where we are knocking it around the back. Norwood will be part of this, before he gets the ball, he looks up to see who is free and already knows where he putting the 50 yard pass and if it is on or not, and if it isn't he gives it to someone else, slightly moves position and then does the same thing until the 50 yard pass is on. He also never looks hurried or rushed when he does it, he just looks like a footballer who knows what his strength is and how to make the most of it.

We can only loan one player per club, max two from PL clubs. Maybe a sell with buy back gets around this.

No you wouldn’t! Norwood is the engine room of the team. He makes things tick. whether he scores or not he’s the first player on the team sheet. Top player!!!

….boom. And that is why going to games is important to judge a player. I often follow a player solely for 5 or 10 minutes without watching where the ball is, to see what they’re really all about. At the risk of setting off a ruck on here, my theory is those that go to games appreciate Norwood far more than those that watch on TV.

He has certainly upped his game considerably in the past twelve months. When we were relegated we all expected him to remain at a level way over what he was capable of, simply because he'd played two seasons in the PL, the second one largely disappointing. Certainly under Slav as he tried to wrest us away from WIlderball into a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 Norwood looked dreadful and ineffective but since Hecky and his modifications to 5-3-2 we've seen Norwood more judicious with the Hollywood passes, better positionally and quite good in the tackle. He also remains consistent whoever is playing alongside him. Although he's not the complete article and can give the ball away cheaply, his reading of the game this season has been really, really good and he is very effective as a defensive midfielder when needed. His corners too, now not hitting the defender on the near post, go into the action zone for the tall lads to do something with.

I don't though see him as an option in the Premier League.

I just wish he could fucking shoot.
