Ollie Norwood

^You could be right. It also gives them strong links to a decent club, if things don’t go their way long term with Man City!
Both solid professionals, grounded with a good attitude.

I think we will get promoted.

Norwood is a player that gets a lot of undue criticism. he has control of the ball a lot in games and usually makes the right pass and more often than not, makes a very good pass. he dictates the tempo and flow of the game and is always available to receive the ball.
On occasion it doesnt work out and there have been times where we have been caught out but that is no different to any other player losing the ball/misplacing a pass. i think Norwood gets more grief because we have come to expect that he will "ping" it around beautifully.

One thing that I have noticed more this season is the huge improvement in his tackling ability and the regularity of him winning the ball back. He has clearly worked on this as it was, for me the one thing that we could possibly criticise him for in previous seasons. There have been a lot of times where he has nipped in and taken the ball back for us.

He (along with the rest of the team) also seem to have got their enjoyment for the game back. the relegation season really took its toll on the confidence of the whole squad. That confidence is back. The optimist in me still sees room for further improvement. I hope this is right.

As has been said by others, I dont think we will really understand how good a player is until he has gone. Hopefully that isnt for at least another season or 2.

Well remember when Ollie arrived "on loan" with agreement to buy from Fulham for reported £2 mill fee and we managed to ship out Lee Evans for (again reported) same amount or thereabouts. Great credit to CW and recruitment team. Remember Ollie's first League game against Villa which we won 4-1 and he scored. We all wondered where he had been hiding and why no one else had bought him. We have all criticised some of CWs buys but this was one of his best.
It was his best buy bar none

Have we offered him a new contract, reading star doesn't sound like it

What a player this lad is!! One of the finest midfielders I've seen in my 35 years watching the Blades. Some of his passing is breathtaking. I cannot believe he gets some stick from our fans at times, the man is sheer quality. Enjoy him Blades, you only get to see players like him once in a generation.
Absolute baller

This is something that worries me going a long way back. Often wondered what this squad would be like without Norwood and Egan. I am not Norwood biggest fan, but even I have to admit, he’s having a great season.
We coped well enough without Egan, but it’s good to have him back in the frame. If Norwood is injured or suspended, how would we manage?
A midfield 3 of McAtee, Berge and Doyle. Ndiaye and Sharp/McBurnie up front? Plenty of attacking support from Bogle, Lowe, Ahmedhodzic and Clark.
I did used to think the loss of either Egan or Norwood could hit us hard, but now - not so much.

Good prep for next season when we lose the Man City loans, and Berge always vulnerable to a tempting bid. (This assumes we get promoted of course).
Why would you not be a fan when you admit hes having a great season ? 🤷‍♂️

Simple really. I have always had doubt about his ability and motivation. He is a decent player, and he can have a positive effect on others form too.
His best form was visible when we were promoted to the EPL and in our first season back there.
His recent form is good, possibly because his contract is up for renewal and we have the prospect of promotion again.
His consistency is a worry and that is compounded by the cynic in me, which sees his best form only when a reward is possible.
I don’t see me as a member of the “Norwood is great, he makes us tick” fan club. He is very good, but only when things look good for us/him personally.

I think the closest thing we have to Norwood long-term would be Arblaster, potentially a very good player

Players' form go through peaks and troughs and that is part and parcel of the game. I feel it is extremely harsh to say that Norwood was only motivated when his contract was up for renewal or there was a prospect of promotion and further rewards. This guy has sacrificed his international career to concentrate on his club football. For me, he's a very intelligent player who is totally focused on his club career and the success of the Blades and we are very lucky to have him at the club.

Used to think he was easy to nullify when pressed .

However he seems to have found himself more space this season.

It's usually the best players that just seem to have a knack of finding time and space to launch those devastating passes.

I honestly do not get the -he pings it to nowhere brigade - I think they know nowt about footie , honestly I hang my head
Agree, when his pinged Hollywood passes come off they split teams wide open and switch play. It’s his 5 yard passes in front of our defence that sometimes worry me.
when he’s playing well he’s got to be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Please note my use of the word ‘possibly’.
It’s possibly just a coincidence that his form improves when he is motivated? He found his game limited to some extent by the QPR pressing recently?
He possibly deserves another crack at EPL when we are promoted?

I am not denying his qualities, just curious when his fan club make claims for his beatification.

Helps having players around him who can also hold the ball and do something creative - in the relegation year he often played on his own no protection no outlets yet even though he struggled that season he was our only player who looked to try and get us forward but it could have destroyed him
Last season he got nullified man marked not happening this year as Macatee Ndiaye Berge all need man marking then the mobility of Doyle and a decent back three when all fit

Norwood has his limitations to his game and he can be nullified if a manager does his homework on us. He also lacked a bit of physicality and wasn't the best at tackling.

The above said, I've noticed a big improvement to his tackling and tracking side of the game (apparently Hecky challenged him on this part of his game in the summer) and he is a much better midfielder for it. His passing can be sublime but still erratic and he can over do the long Hollywood style passed at times but this too seems to be better managed this season with less passes for effect and more passes for purpose. He's playing the best I've ever seen him play that the Lane and that includes his first season when he arrived and he was great. He's done really well for us this season. For people who moan about him (and tbh I have done too in the past) you have to remember that we are a championship side atm and if Norwood was perfectly then he wouldn't be playing for SUFC. He has been and still is a fantastic player for us. He has a Captain's attitude too. Keep it up Olly, thas duin grand lad.

I agree. There is a good article on him in today’s DT sport section.
Apparently he has not missed a training session since he turned pro ! Now there’s the kiss of death !
