Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Swear older Blades used to say "Jesus saves but Currie scores from the rebound". Think I remember hearing there was even graffiti to that effect on Shoreham Street!

Speaking of Celtic, if this went ahead The Troubles would still be going! 😱:

Alistair Campbell......what an idiot.

Based on his latest podcast, he agrees with you. He’s toe-curlingly embarrassed by it.
I'll have to take your word for it - even if I took a sip from the holy grail, I don't believe I would ever find the time to listen to a Alistair Campbell podcast.

Many thanks for the pics from the Notts County match. If you have access to more material from that era, I would really appreciate seeing it. That was my first away match, and although I have the programme, I have no photos, reports, etc., so it was really good to see your post. I was 9 years old, my brother is 4 years older, but was not deemed old enough to look after me. So mother and grandmother accompanied us on the train, and went shopping while we were at the match. The weather was terrible (as the pictures show), and when we got back to Sheffield, we all had to walk home in deep snow. After that, my brother was deemed to be old enough to be responsible for me, and so began 6 or 7 happy years of football and train spotting. A measure of how bad the weather was that day is that Wednesday played Man City at home, and had a crowd of just 10159😂.

Went to both games in the fa cup against Aldershot. two very poor games. bleeding long way back from Aldershot after that defeat. did not think it could get worse after that. ended up getting relegated to the third division for the first time in our history. then it rock bottom and ended up in the fourth division a couple of seasons after that.

In the spirit of modern psychology, take the positives - the season in Division 4 was enjoyable. What preceded it was part of the journey.

Bag of emotions reference the Notts Co. game.
Possibility one County supporter at this game, who I never met, lives on in our children as I married his daughter, who would have been 11 at the time of the game.
Unfortunately, he passed away later that year and despite being a Grantham man had family in Nottingham and I had supposed the arrival of Tommy Lawton at County, late1940's, could have been the catalyst, or he may have supported before 39/45.
His two sons have no affiliation for association football, being motor vehicle oriented, possibly because having been a dispatch rider 39/45 after being in the trenches in the earlier punch up, fighting at Mons as he had a Mons Star to go with his two sets of 'Pip Squeak' and 'Wilfred'.
Therefore someone who could be on the photos played such a large part in my life.
Surreal very surreal mi thinks.
John Spencer's son in law, think I got that right, is on here, he will be highly delighted to see this.

Arsenal 1 Blades 1 in March 1965. Looks like the ref allowed both teams to play their first choice kits?

Actually that slogan was on one of a set of pin badges sold in The Blades souvenir shop, they were about 2" in diameter & cost 15p each, the two I had were...Jesus saves but Sabella nets the rebound ,orange badge,& one in white which read ...Jeff Bourne strikes than the Yorkshire ripper, had them on my Blades denim jacket

Jeff Bourne strikes faster than The Yorkshire ripper

That's a great photo. There must be Blades still around who can spot themselves or someone they know in the crowd. I think I would have been stood to the right of that photo.

Looks like a Leeds fan (scarf around his waist) being escorted somewhere.

One random observation. I never understood what that 'bent' iron pole that's attached to the railings was used or needed for.

John Dungworth with the penalty to knock us out, John has worked on and off for the Blades for about 40 years or so I reckon.

Also the crossbar seems quite saggy. Not sure if it’s an optical illusion or not!
