It might surprise some of you 70s fans to see my cousin Trevor Hockey before he moved from Bradford City to Nottingham forest.
When working in Singapore during my first stint there, about 12 years ago, i was talking football with the taxi driver and on announcing my allegiance to United he replied in Chinese broken English 'Ah so, Trevor Hockey! The best'
I didn't have the heart to tell him the guy had been dead for over 20 years!

MALDENBLADE

Here is one when your cousin played against Spurs in 1961-62

Scored the first goal at the same ground the following season but Forest lost 9-2!

And at home to Arsenal

There might be more if you search in the heavyroller's homepage

Great days at the 'Wap' late 70's.
I went to work in a hotel in Devon 1976 after A levels.
My initial job was cleaning toilets from 5am and the first person i bump in to was Dave the night porter. He used to work as an assistant manager at the Wap and he exclaims ''not bloody you, i thought i'd seen the last of you in Sheffield''!

I was telling some of the kids (mid-20s) at work about our regular Friday night trail - The Yorkie, The Wap, and Rebs. It proves one thing - we Sheffielders like to shorten a name.

Regular in the Wap from 74 to 77. Mate's sister used to work behind the bar before electronic tills were installed. Worthington E was 24p a pint, so we'd go to the bar, order 4 pints, give her a quid, and she'd give us 2 x 50p in change rather than 2 x 2p. An evening in there cost us fuck all. Mind you, it was Worthington E in plastic glasses, so I reckon it should have been free anyway.....

I'll have a guess at 1957/58?
Having experienced Pond St as shown, even before this photo, late 40,s. I believe photo early 50's. First zebra crossings, 1951 and the first covered bus station built around '53 to'55.
As I've said before the bus stop shelters were completely useless, especially on a wet November day, offered no protection at all.
Brick building on platform, was toilets and may also have had some kind of lock up for bus operatives, but that's stretching my memory somewhat.
When the first covered 'Pond St' was built, it was manor from heaven though drafty, and at least you could see your girl off on her last bus plus some snogging in the dry.
SUT yard/depot, memories of 50's Blades away games mainly on bank holidays.
Early 60's the Lyceum Hotel, centre photo, came into play, as I left Sheffield to work away and on return weekends went in whilst waiting the return coach on a early Sunday evening.Pond St bus station from Sheaf St..jpg Differing view.

I know I’ve quoted these before but feel no shame in doing so again , in case anyone is in any doubt what a great player this man was .

“ Easily the finest centre half I ever played against “ and “ The only player I’ve ever come up against who could turn a good pass into a bad one “

Nat Lofthouse - The Lion of Vienna .

Where is the pavilion clock, now? View attachment 137770Before.View attachment 137771
I think the pavilion clock was removed and went missing for many years. Finally turned up in an attic in Nether Edge (?) and was re-instated above the Legends of the Lane

Looks pretty original to me, or a good reproduction anyway!

Yes, go along with what you say, but where are the balls? Can see where they would fit but surely every part of clock would have been kept together because of the historical value.
I never noticed the Tudor roses before, is that a clue it's a repro as the YCCC badge is as below, though it has changed a little these days. YCCC Cap.jpg
Photo of it early days, also showing how it was fixed to the building which is not so obvious after the extensions were built onto the pavilion.BDTBL-Pavilion Bramall Lane.png
