Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

I see but I doubt Revie's offer would be the same as Chelsea's. My dad said Jones was worth a lot more than Birch

I’m not sure about a lot more , but in general I’d agree .

Mick was more prolific than Birch but the latter was more technically gifted and creative and even more of a pain in the arse for defenders . Furthermore , the fact that as a young kid in only his second appearance for the Blades he scored two match winning goals against the Grunters makes him almost priceless !

Anyway , the big question here is how they compare in value and contribution to our team’s performances to the dynamic duo of McBurnie and Brewster who cost us a mere £40 million , not to mention their combined salaries of over £3 million pa . :)

My recollection is that they were both of equal value in my 10 year old eyes as I will always remember the 4-0 home win against Fulham in 66/67 where they both scored 2 each and walking around the cricket pitch to see goals in both ends. I've no doubt what by selling Jones and Sherman was the only reason we were relegated the following season coincidentally alongside Fulham. 😞 50 odd years later I still have nothing but utter contempt for Dick Fookin Wragg.:mad:

selling jones and birchenall definetly sent us down in 68 but even then we should have stayed up losing at home to fulham and chelsea sealed our fate especially the fulham game when we were 2 up

The crowd for that match was 40,000 and the Kop had more spectators than that in the photo. Also the match was televised by YTV so there should be tv cameras on the cricket pitch


Maybe Blades 3 Spurs 2 in May 1973?

The pitch looks in good nick for the last match of the season? The game against Coventry at home 11 days earlier was played in very wet conditions!
I agree about the 71/2 game, there being no more there and Spurs in May 73 was a night match, though the photo could have been early in the game?

From what I remember about the Spurs game in May 1973 it wasnt a sunny evening. Will try to find a photo of the game from that evening

Looked up the Spurs line ups for 11/9/71 and 2/5/73 and looking at Spurs number 7 and 4 in below photo. Ralph Coates was number 7 and Alan Mullery was 4 in 71. Ralph Coates was 4 and Jimmy Neighbour was 7 in 1973. Neither number 4 or 7 look like Coates. May not be Spurs?

Possibly Fucking leeds? They used to wear yellow socks although Bremner either wasn’t playing number 4 or he’s had his hair dyed. 😂

We attacked the Lane End in the 2nd half against Leeds in both evenings in August 71 and 72. The photo suggest we were attacking the Lane End so no chance of daylight in the 2nd half also attendance was 40,000 in both matches. We attacked the Lane End in the first half against Spurs in May 73, attendance was 20,000 but I dont think it was sunny that evening

It definitely looks like an early season game, could be earlier than 1971? I think it could be Bristol City September 5th 1970
