It's a slightly different view from just outside the Dram Shop (probably the first good range of bottled beers in Sheffield).
Your first picture showed the wall outside the care home at the bottom of Commonside.
I couldn’t get the angle on google maps. You do need to get out more though.

When I saw the first picture, it reminded me that where that wall was at the junction of Springvale Road/Commonside, there used to be a petrol station, certainly in the late sixties/early seventies.

The second picture where you mention the wall, now long gone, is after the petrol station disappeared, no idea when it went, and it can’t have lasted more than 25 years?

It closed about 15 years ago. There were plans for a Tesco Local but IIRC, these were turned down. The site is still derelict so presumably another attractive block of flats can be anticipated.

Your’e 100% correct!
I was at an auction at BDTBL a few months ago and the land was bought with permission already in place for (another) block of flats....😏

looking down the street. Shop at the bottom. If correct, it’s all been flattened and redeveloped.

I think this is Burlington Street, but you are looking down to its junction with Martin Street. The houses here are set back from the corner shop whereas on the other photo they are all in line. The flats in the background are on the edge of the Ponderosa and the grey church in the far distance on the left is possibly St Stephen's on Fawcett Street. (Where I was born)

Yes, I think you’re right. I knew something didn’t quite add up. Me and my mates who lived round that area in the early 90s used to meet on the Ponderosa every Monday afternoon and play football. Scored the best goal I ever scored on there. Hit it so well an old bloke sat on the balcony of one of the flats that overlooked jumped up and applauded. I felt like Tony Currie.

It was on Infirmary Road I believe. Now a bit of speculation... To me it looks like a gathering for a special occasion. Is that George Mooney himself, front row, Bowler hat next to the lady with the scarf and cheroot in her mouth. If the photo is indeed 1922, then George Mooney married his second wife, Margaret Hogan that year. Just guessing like.
Apologies for replying so late. You seem to have some knowledge of the Mooney family.
The reason I ask is that I am led to believe there is a marriage connection between the Mooney's and my family. According to my maternal grandfather his youngest brother married a 'sister' of the Mooney family. I have little knowledge of my mothers uncle and none at all about his wife. If you have any info on the females of the Mooney family you wish to divulge I would be grateful.
You may give me the kick start I need for searching into this quandary through official records.
Thanks in advance.

Remember Cutlers on West St. Had an incredible collection on show including Bowie Knives commemorating the Battle of the Alamo.
