We all know what Woodward could do with a ball but who's to say that if Carlin had taken the kick it wouldn't have been a goal. Maybe the team were under instructions to cold shoulder Carlin with the Derby interest or maybe Woodward wanted Currie at 8 rather than at10, which is what happened after Rowley 'faffed' around with Munks, Hill and Addison at 8.I am aware that Willie's last game was the home game against Millwall. You can see in the 1968-69 season video that in the Millwall game he wanted to take a free kick but Woody insisted on taking it and Willie showed a little despair in his body language. It was the right decision cos Addison headed in Woody's free kick.
Willie Carlin was a more than decent player, should never have gone when he did, Rowley was a miss fit, did great for Shrewsbury and should have stayed there. We've all seen it many times, some people are better where they are, moving is not always good, job was too big for him.
