My Grandad and Dad ( when he was 10)went on the team bus with Albert once to Blackpool. I seem to remember it was for a training camp for a couple of days ( think 1940’s Dubai) .... there was a mix up with rooms capacity and Albert , my Grandad and my Dad all ended up sleeping in the same double bed 😂

Albert also offered the chance for my Dad to be a ball boy , which he refused as he was ‘ too shy ‘ ( think 1940’s Limahl). I remember listening to that one in disbelief, I’d have given my left conker to be a ball boy !
Fantastic memory, proves the saying "life is stranger than fiction".
Understand your dad, my grandmother made some sheaf's of flowers for Senior Atkins, Chairman at Lane, to be presented to Kiev (believe it was). Brought them home for me to deliver thinking I could get my foot in the door at Lane. Same result as your dad, god was she livid don't think I was spoken too for a while.

Although I had been going to the Lane for several years this was the first year I had actually had a season ticket and was looking forward to us doing well. By Christmas we had sold Jones and Birchenall and, unsurprisingly, we were relegated at the end of the season. I was well and truly on the roller coaster.
Dick Wraggs decision another toss pot of a chairman!!

You even managed to miss a player off that picture, who put in the worst 45 minute performance of any SUFC player I have ever witnessed and that’s over many games and many years.

Step forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and nobody who saw him that night would ever have believed he would go on to play Premier League football. Or Bash, or Billy for that matter.
Those of us who went that night wouldn’t have believed any of them would have gone on to have a football career, never mind in the premier league

bit of a random one and the answer is probably in here but being over 720 pages and not many of the photos are titled its hard to find but does anyone have any photos of Alan Kelly from the coventry fa cup game in 98? working on a project and cant find that many of him apart from these 3. I was wondering if anyone had one when he was on supporters shoulders at the end of the game?

Is it a coincidence that Kelly and Ogrizovic have the same kit? Imagine the scenario. Both goalkeepers in the same penalty area in the last minute of the match, one looking for a last minute equaliser. Confusing for the referee or what?

it happens quite a lot now to be fair. lots of teams that use the same manufacturer have the same keeper kits. I've seen it before where both keepers are in the area wearing the same kit

Looks like some eastern European power station, same design as that monstrosity at the bottom of Charter Row.
Which won an Architectural Award in the sixties. Sorry no details was told that by H.E. Mottram's son, who's name escapes me. There was another son, Ken, who was a spec. house builder.

I understand Albert was quite a character both on and of the field, took no prisoners when games got a tad spicy. May have seen him play, certainly no definite recollection, only a lad at time. My earliest recollections of United were family and folks conversations. Two names that caught my imagination after Hagan were Rickett and Nightingale.
I am always amazed how many members of this site have connections, one way or another, to many of the past players. Would be very interesting to hear any stories there are to tell however innocuous they may be.
Rickett had bandy legs and Nightingale had a beautiful singing voice. That’s all I know about them.

Bandy legs I knew, but not Albert being a forerunner for Colin Grainger Maybe Paisley Blade could throw a little more light on his singing abilities?

Dunno, youtube doesnt have captions for this film. Looks like Hatton scored the goal and it looks like Trenton Wiggan is playing.

Written by Barry Hines who wrote Kes (Kestrel for a Knave)

Barry Hines lived at Broomhill for a period of time and used to go and watch the Blades.

He wrote Threads and I'm pretty sure there's a scene featuring Bramall Lane.

I have to be really careful here to protect the guilty, but I was at that game with a group of lads, invited by a local Coventry business, & we all had far too much to drink. The hospitality lounge had huge sliding glass windows & was near where the players came out after the game, & one of our party approached Alan Kelly & addressed him in a mock stupid voice & pretended to interview him, & asked, "Alan, I noticed you were wearing the same footy goalkeeper kit as the Coventry 'keeper, did you in fact buy it from the same footy goalkeeper shirt shop?" I guess you had to be there but Kelly's face was a picture, still makes me laugh now.
