The electric building was beaut. I love these.

Other good example here of those: (picture sheffield and google maps)

Yeah the top building was discussed a few pages back, another one I don't remember seeing whilst still up. So many fine buildings gone, hundreds I imagine if you count all the ones down the moor and around where Hallam Uni is too. Very sad.

Not a photo, but I do love the paintings that this artist does.

Does anyone know the building to the far right, next to the Norfolk Arms and in front of the Town Hall?

Also the one to the left at the front?

The building far right with the 'sunrise' cut up is supposed to be The Norfolk Market Hall. Built 1851, on the site of the Tontine Inn, an interesting place of Sheffield history, if you find anything on it read it. The market hall was demolished 1959, sacrilege, and they built Woolworths Haymarket on the site. Artistic licence, it did not have windows on the façade overlooking the Caslefolds wholesale market it was all brickwork.

Cheers mate.

Do you know why was the Electricity Building demolished? Was it for the same reason as the other gems, i.e 'progress'?
I can only vaguely remember this building but it would have been lost when Commercial Street was made a dual carriageway in the late 60s early 70s The buildings on the other side of the road (Canada House and the ones above it) were saved but a sad loss nonetheless.

The same fate as the Barclay's bank building then. Scandalous decisions seem to have been made around that time. I feel like we have been robbed of our architectural birthright sometimes, if such a thing exists.
