One of my local commercial fisheries in Leicestershire stocks barbel. Always thought of barbel as river fish, but they seem to be thriving in these pools. They don't half pull that pole elastic.

It was fly-fishing for carp in our gravel pit last year and caught a barbel. Work that one out...

The Don from The Wicker to Medowhall and probably beyond, has some huge barbel going well into double figures.

All those people in Fitzalan Square reminds me of the late Saturday nights / early Sunday mornings waiting forever for a taxi.
Deciding against catching the 1.30am bus back up to Lowedges and 'giving it another half hour' (usually a waste of time) in Josephine's, Top Rank etc.

Arriving into Fitzalan Square which looked more like Trafalgar Square on New Years Eve. More often than not decided to walk and about Woodseats managing to flagg down an empty taxi.

Waking up the next day with the words 'never again.'

Bugger Bramall Lane.
Wow! A Ford Capri S and it could even be the 1600!
Fantastic car,
unless you wanted to go out in the snow
or the rain
or expected it to start in winter.......
Looks like it could be JPS colours as well - 10mph faster than other colours.
My Dad borrowed a 3-litre version once - it would have been quite fast if the rear tyres had actually gripped the tarmac!

Ah, the model with cross-flow ash trays

I seem to remember Taffy? the Welsh teacher in the 'Please Sir ' film commenting on a shop called the "Prophylactic Emporium" - I never really knew what it meant but perhaps its this shop that the writer had in mind?

You've got the right actor - Richard Davies - and he did play Taffy in Please Sir but the quote comes from the "Kipper and the Corpse" episode of Fawlty Towers. He and his wife have had enough of Basil's lunacy and decide to find themselves an alternative hotel: "...we'll try the one up by the Prophylactic Emporium."

You lads mean the ..... 976 !

Remember the 1.30 whistle blowing on High Street to let the drivers know it was time to set off ??

Many a time I was running up York Street hearing that fucking whistle and knowing I'd just missed out by 30 seconds.

Oh well - run back down and sneak back into Romeo's for last orders (and getting the knock back from any old bird for the last dance)

Mint them days !!!
