I thought that the wall at the end of the street in this photo looked a bit like that building ?

I know the Luftwaffe had a go, but I don't think I know a city centre in England where the planners finished their job off for them as ruinously as they did in Sheffield..... believe me, as an outsider, in a car, the street plan has all the clarity & logic of a snakes and ladders board that got muddled up with the Times crossword.
Hence my earlier comment about the way the Manpower Services Commission building strangled the Moor.
did you know that in the not so recent past, tom tom refused to update the sheffield city centre map because the council kept changing the layout?

ok for the pedants the map company did

No I didn't - but its nice to know I'm not the only one.

Its even shit on foot. Before my time, the streets between Midland Station (the railway station) and the Town Hall were a straight forward grid pattern, (I love old maps). There was a church where the Peace Gardens is now, it was right at the end of Howard Street (pictured before). If you came to Sheffield you left the station and walked straight up Howard Street to the centre of the city. If you were driving, you did the same sort of thing.

Now, you cross a ring-road, walk up Howard Street cross another ring-road and thats it, you are confronted by the BACKS of various buildings you have to sneak up round them up past the library or through the Millennium Falcon Galleries or up a flight of steps somewhere near the cheese-grater - what sort of a bollox entry to a major city is that? ..... in a car? forget it.

Woody with brown hair and a fresh faced TC ,quality.
It was noticeable Woody's hair was going grey in summer 1973. I remember going to the pre-season friendly match at York a fan behind me shouted "Snowy" at Woody. Woody was only 26 then

Credit to you for turning out in that temperature. I like my splodging but only when I can feel the heat on my back.
Hey that was when I was younger got to be at least 10c before I turn out !
I can remember the Winter League turned out in some ridiculous conditions crazy

I was having a stroll along one of my club waters on the Idle a couple of weeks ago. Spotted four barbel each the size of my arm. In my youth I'd have been there the next day. Not anymore, would sooner be warm.

and look, a road that actually goes somewhere!

Ridiculously the road to the right of the cinema, now a dammed and damned and potholed stub is called Esperanto Place or something daft.

Grand designs as dreamed up by Sheffield City Council (Highways Dept.)

One of my local commercial fisheries in Leicestershire stocks barbel. Always thought of barbel as river fish, but they seem to be thriving in these pools. They don't half pull that pole elastic.
