Love the photo of Alf Ringstead’s header which was absolutely typical of him and reminded me that down the years , we have been blessed with a number of players whose outstanding ability in the air defied their lack of inches .

Alf is one of them , alongside the likes of Gil Reece and the peerless Doc Pace . None of these have an equivalent in the relatively modern game , the nearest I can think of being Tim Cahill in his time at Everton.

The rule about goalie not handling the ball in the opponents half was an eye opener, didn't know he could handle it anywhere in his own half...1903/04 season.
Maybe try the Ellimans for our crocked players

Just looking at this pic and had forgot how many Watford players ended up playing for the Blades.
Colin Franks, Keith Eddy, Stuart Scullion and Terry Garbutt.
We even got their manager Ken Furphy.

70/71 season was my first at the Lane and I’m on the second row to the very left of this photo of the BL stand, but too blurred to make us out clearly.
Moved to the South Stand when it was built. Great days👍

That South Stand was the kiss of death for us

The rule allowing keepers to handle anywhere in their own half was abolished in Summer 1912. Before that, a few keepers were known to bounce the ball up to the halfway line.

I think the rule requiring keepers to wear different coloured shirts came in around the same time.

Bottom 2 werent goals scored by Woody. Him jumping for joy was when sub Tudor scored the last minute equaliser at home to Bristol City in Sept 1970. Bottom is when Man U's keeper, John Connaughton, allowed a hopeful cross shot by Salmons to slip through his hands in the 1-1 draw in April 1972.

HarryHaslam , do you have any photos of the 1973 Boxing Day match at Old Trafford? I have not been able to find any and I wonder if we wore the white shirts with collar like we did at Liverpool in October 1973 (you posted them a few weeks ago which surprised me because I was at Anfield that day but dont remember that our shirts had collars.
Would it be this shirt?
1973-75 change strip.jpgA thing of beauty and imagine as rare as rocking horse manure.
Will keep my eye open for '73 Boxing Day photos.

Joe Shaw 1961-62, wearing a kit alien to United.
White V neck on shirt with centre stripe also white.
Centre stripe white as only been used once since V & crew necked shirts have been worn. 1956-57 and then not for every game of that season.
Shorts that look red. Deduced through years of experience looking at B/W footie photos.
Sox, deduced as red with white turn overs. Often seen in photos of players whilst training but never match day wear.
Interested to know thoughts, better if anyone can give the definitive explanation. Thank YOU.

That is what I am trying to find out. We wore that shirt at Anfield in October 1973, I was at the match but dont remember noticing that our shirt had this collar. HarryHaslam posted the two below photos a few weeks ago. I was at Old Trafford in Boxing Day in 1973 and I wonder if we did wear the same shirt.
