I really like the Dublin Porter but haven’t seen it for a while - was a mainstay in T’Asdoh and the local offy.Gold Label was a fifties product created by Tennants before they sold out to Whitbread. Other barley wines existed but were dark in colour.
Both Bass and Whitbread brewed bottled Guinness under licence. Like Whitbread and Stones bitter, they had a different taste. Bass Guinness was slightly more bitter, and was the choice in our family as Sunday dinner time sessions started with a bottle or two. The label designs, tops etc were the same, the only difference being the brewery address at the bottom.
These foresaken days, Guinness West Indies Porter is the mainstay for me.
