Charles Shinfield and his wife, Queenie were landlords there 1921/22. The characters in the photo could quite possibly be members of the Mooney gang who were alledged to have frequented the establishment around that timeWhat a cracking photo that is .
Look to be a few characters on there who'd got a tale to tell !
Point taken, but was Rowley ever really in charge? Seriously.Rowley, not Harris, sold Carlin to Derby.
Love the sign about holiday raincoats, everyone must have been off to Blackpool for their jollys
High street/Haymarket junction?
Ah! that's a Cracker
Where was this pub 'alleged' to have been situated? Genuine Question, and I'm the worlds worst speller, believe me.Charles Shinfield and his wife, Queenie were landlords there 1921/22. Yes in the 1968-69 season.Point taken, but was Rowley ever really in charge? Seriously.

It was on Infirmary Road I believe. Now a bit of speculation... To me it looks like a gathering for a special occasion. Is that George Mooney himself, front row, Bowler hat next to the lady with the scarf and cheroot in her mouth. If the photo is indeed 1922, then George Mooney married his second wife, Margaret Hogan that year. Just guessing like.Ah! that's a Cracker

I was at that game and Willie "ran the show", fact. My recall on the move is he move almost immediately even that he signed after the Derby game but that's not true as he played V Millwall, his last game for United, on the Saturday after the Tuesday Derby game.Yes in the 1968-69 season.
This is the story I read somewhere
Before our 2-0 win over Derby (Carlin scored one of the goals) in our 2nd game of the 1968-69 season, Clough came up to Carlin and said to him "I hear your boss doesnt fancy you!" Carlin was surprised and wondered if Clough tried to bribe him
A week or two later he refused to even talk about the possibility of a move to Derby, but one morning Sheffield United general manager John Harris told Carlin "your boss wants you in the office" so he went over to the office and was surprised to see Clough there with Rowley. Clough asked "Fancy joining Derby?". Carlin was taken aback and said "I have just moved house and I would need to discuss this with my wife". Clough then said "I will drive you to your house".
Carlin agreed to talk it over with his wife, Marie. Brian drove Carlin home to meet the missus but Clough was singing "Who wears the trousers, who wears the trousers?" during the car lift. It turned out she was not too enthused about Sheffield and when Willie asked her: "Do you want to move to Derby?'' she replied instantly: "Now or tomorrow? We have only just moved house". Clough then went to talk to her, Carlin was taken aback "It is me you are trying to sign!" Clough replied "I have already signed you, now I am talking to the wife"
I am aware that Willie's last game was the home game against Millwall. You can see in the 1968-69 season video that in the Millwall game he wanted to take a free kick but Woody insisted on taking it and Willie showed a little despair in his body language. It was the right decision cos Addison headed in Woody's free kick.I was at that game and Willie "ran the show", fact. My recall on the move is he move almost immediately even that he signed after the Derby game but that's not true as he played V Millwall, his last game for United, on the Saturday after the Tuesday Derby game.
Whatever the real facts are, and I must say it's good to discuss with you SB, we are missing the main point that once again, SUFC in whatever guise, made a monumental 'bollocks' of selling a very influential player when he may very well have got United promoted as he did Derby that season.
Is that you arriving for work carrying your snap bag?Worked on that for Gleesons
