Wasn't it the 53 bus. Or have you confused it with the 42?
The Wise and Hague families were blades, both on Lindsay, also the Aitken's.....
I'm off Buchanan, where ,as far as I remember, there was shopkeepers Roger Heath&Ernest Bownes, then Sam Major and me,who were Blades.
There was a shop on Buchanan Rd served us with 1p bangers when we were nippers

That reminds me of the spot the ball competiton. Never where I put my X's

You're absolutely correct, I have confused the 2 numbers, but then I do that all the time these days, considering that was over 58 years ago, I 'm surprised I got it as close as I did!
We were spoils for choice with buses,a short walk took me to one end of Buchanan,if I was going to the match alone,I got the 20 or 17, if going with the lads of Wordsworth,it was the 49'53,89,or a short walk through Chaucer school fields, for the 42 or the buses from high green.
Happy days,as most dropped us within a short walk of the ground, ( it seemed short back then, even from Bridge street).

This should keep the tram spotters happy. I don't recognise any of Sheffield though...

About 2.35 in it comes up Pinstone Street with the Town Hall on the distance in the right.

Then it jumps to going down Commercial Street towards what is now Park Square.

Loads and loads of bits i don't recognise, although the sp[rightly little terrier fairly early on was called Buster and was on his way for a shit.

Think the tram goes down High Street then swings left into Haymarket then Waingate rather than going down Commercial Street. You can see one of the doorways to the Old Town Hall on the left very near the end of the film

The top photo would be 1975 because the roof wasnt there until after March 1975 as you can see in the below pgoto (Blades v West Ham on 22nd March 1975)

Found this

  • Starts at the junction of London Road and Queens Road (Lowfield Primary School in centre shot)
  • Down London Road, with the end of Alderson Road visible on right London Road / Alderson Road
  • Up South Street, Moor and on to Pinstone Street
  • Down Fargate and High Street
  • Left just before Commercial Street and down Haymarket
  • Finishes by the old Town Hall (Law Courts)
  • Last shot is out of place, as it's Sheffield Goldsmiths Company, which was not at this location?

It probably wouldn't have mattered - it was a big con. When it started, the top prize was £1k. Then they had a 'rollover' (sounds familiar?) and it eventually went up and up to £100k. Unless you cut out your entry with surgical precision, it would be rejected at it had to fit exactly in their frame. Remember those rubber stamps you could buy with loads of tiny 'X's?
