The one on Kent Road has been taken by Amey. There are also reports of York Stone slabs and kerbs taken and replaced with cheap concrete ones. If true, they seem to be above the law in Sheffield.

It's still standing on Kent Road, went past it yesterday. The one at the top of the big hill?

Oops bollocks kicking of again on the Lane End

My immediate thought was also that this was Leeds, but not Boxing Day. The weather doesn't look cold enough?

I recall a friendly in the New Year with possibly Sabella playing for them and us winning, but I was young and had moved from the very front of the kop to the middle just before the trench (I was growing up, but not yet old enough to go past the trench!) and focussed on the kop atmosphere.

I also remember a copper whacking the hands of any Leeds fan who put their hands on the top of the fence with his truncheon. That may explain what the break away rozzer is doing standing on the advertising hoarding. The lack of riot gear and seemingly uncoordinated policing approach would point to pre '81 riot tactics, where they were feckin clueless. Post Brixton and Moss Side a few lessons were learnt.

A great photo of the 'other' tunnel. I'd completely forgot that was there and assume it was to get things onto the pitch in the olden days, lawn mowers, 70's cars for the parade around the ground with a dolly bird sat on the roof and then latterly a place for the coppers to wait to come and bash hands. Anyone know the history of that tunnel?

R.I.P. The John Street stand you are truly missed.

Getting all forensic with the photo like Silent Blade I think it could be earlier than we thought.

The crowd fencing for a start. Pretty sure that it came down in 90-91 after Hillsborough.

There also doesn't look to be a concourse on the terrace - which would make it earlier than the mid 80s.

I can't remember an away following that big during daylight in that era.

Could it possibly be the pigs in 1980?

A great photo capturing all the fun of the West Terrace in any case.

There were a few years when they added another pitch marking, a line to keep photographers behind so they weren't too close to the goal-line - that might help date the photograph?

I think you're right it's the return game with Wendy 1980

Crowd, daylight and weather could make it the pigs, but I don't remember any need for Plod activity like that. But as a 12 year old keen on revenge for the ruination of my Xmas, I may not have been observing the old bill.

Just done some research and we played Leeds in early Jan in a friendly and won 1-0. I definitely remember the truncheoning as it was a hot topic at school. If we had been younger we would have re- enacted it. A re- enactment only after we had marched round the playground chanting 'join on if you want to play at coppers battering Leeds fans at the lane'.. From me memory, seemed to spend more time marching round asking people to 'join on' than actually playing, a bit like my love life in later years...!

Pigs had a crew on the Kop that day the coppers were ten deep surrounding them protecting, also them fucking vicious dogs a mate of mine got bit.
Rest of Wendy squaring up to the West Terrace.
And as always the Blue and White were nowhere to be seen afterwards

If it is still there I apologise. Someone on Facebook had posted that it had been taken. As I have seen where perfectly good kerbs had been substituted for inferior ones by Amey, I assumed it to be correct.

Is that Leeds on Boxing Day?

Never sure if I imagined it, but I was sure there was a load of Leeds fans come over the barriers just as we scored the second in that match and they all scarpered immediately.

I was at that end of John street for that game, and yes they did. They went berserk when we got our second and a few got past the stewards through the gates only to get creamed as they got near our gates by a few old bill. Oh how we laughed!!

Happy days, I would have been 16 I believe.
