Looks like Clarkey was wearing the shirt from the previous year's (??) cup final or something?

It does look like it, doesn't it? Didn't Mick Jones dislocate his shoulder in that game or am I thinking of someone else?

That season some L**ds players wore shirts with collars some wore shirts without collars. Never knew why.

Jones dislocated his elbow in the dying minutes of the 1972 final and had to be helped up the 39 steps by Norman Hunter so that he could receive his medal froom the queen

I read that in the Historical Football kits website - and it looks as though the answer is as simple as some players just wore their previous season's shirt. After all, the FA cup final shirt would only have been worn once and it is Yorkshire when all's said and done.

But then Bremner wore a collar on his shirt at the kick off of the Final against Sunderland and changed it for a crew-neck shirt at halftime ... the latter were certainly airtex - I reckon it's a good thing that they kits just evolved in detail in those days so they were interchangeable from one season to the next. At the same time, we used more than one shirt pattern in the same season.

Its a bit like how you lose one sock from a pair and never seem to find it again.

Presumably the other latest scores are the other local clubs. Did they always do that? I thought it was only the S6 score that was updated. My memory playing tricks again?
Just dug out the Blades v Birmingham programme. Yes Wednesday were losing 1-0 at Luton. The other scores were matches involving other teams who had a chance of going up. In the white indicator B was Carlisle v Norwich, D was Hull v Orient, F Portsmouth v Middlesbrough and H Sunderland v Leicester. All eyes were on N (red indicator) which was the latest score for Cardiff (same points as us but had a game in hand) v Watford. Late in the 2nd half during a lull in play there were whoops of joy when the scoreboard man put up 0-1 meaning Cardiff were losing!

The scores that day are in the link below

complete with Blades player!!!

We will have def come across each other Lane Ender , regular in 80's in there & as my name suggests on JSWT & JSW , good times mate and a lot of good lads from that era

My two heroes. I used to hang around outside the players entrance in the old John Street Stand after matches. The photo was taken in January 1976 when the Blades were at the bottom of the First division and the pair had just requested their names to be in the transfer list. TC went to L**ds in the summer but we managed to persuade Woody to stay with us after he was offered the captaincy and a new role in midfield

Flynn and Salmons. Looks like we're playing Man City.
Dearden not Flynn. October 1973. He scored in the 1st half and the photo might be when he scored. In the 2nd half Rodney Marsh broke McAlister's leg and Denis Law pounced on the loose ball to equalise. Woody went in goal and it was the first time he conceded a goal in over 160 minutes as an emergency keeper, it was an own goal by Billy Dearden

Thanks for the correction. From the face he looked a bit like Flynn.

Fucking Marsh. Potentially the best keeper we ever had, he never really recovered from that injury.
