November 1966. 1-1 draw. Bill Punton's debut after Gil Reece broke his leg the previous week. Before the match many Blades fans had no idea what the new signing from Norwich looked like. When he came on the pitch the Blades fans were shocked that the new signing "looks about 50!"

South stand was supposed to be completed in summer 1974 but the timber shortage and other things meant we had to wait for another year. As for the match I was on a family holiday in Filey but my dad decided that we make the trip back to the Lane (also watching Brigadier Gerard lose for the first time to Roberto at York racecourse) to watch the match (we lost 2-0) and then back to Filey

Seems strange for us to suffer from a timber shortage when one considers that our board would have probably had a member of the Laver family, a timber merchant company and the stand would at some stage be called the Arnold Laver Stand.

First game was against Derby (football league champions). I'd been working away all summer, missed that game but the following week came back for a Central league match. Although we'd seen the stand being constructed it was surreal to see it complete from the John Street terrace. Number of times I'd stood on that terrace watching reserve team games and that view toward the old Pavilion was suddenly no more.

There was timber shortage at the time and I was told at school not to waste too much paper. Don't know if Laver suffered financial problems at the time

10th November 1973, Upton Park. West Ham United full back Frank Lampard makes the mistake of taking on Sheffield United's Eddie Colquhoun.
Eddie's saying "This is for Tevez (he was very forward thinking) and our future relegation from the top flight you cheating bastard, but never mind because Promotion Is Soon.".
