1952, Silent may well know the game. Could be game against the pigs in January but can’t find team line up for that game.
More I look at the photo makes me think that’s the Boleyn ground going by the background. Played them 19th Jan then again couple of weeks later in the cup on 2nd Feb. So one of those games.

I always find it sad when I see the old pictures with houses on them. Not million pound mansions, just small cheap dwellings. I used to live on Blyde Road in the 60's and we were rehoused as part of the 'slum clearing' initiative. The houses there were pulled down early 70's and since then the land has been left to rot and is used as a really small car park as an overspill for the Northern General these days.

Same with that picture. When we have housing there, and a housing shortage it just seems such a waste to demolish them and not replace them.

That can't be right, Tinsley viaduct didn't open until 1968. I think it was the original bit of the M1 up to Rugby that opened in 1959, further North was mid to late 60s

You’re right . The website I got my original information from is very misleading in that although it has the title ‘ M1 Aston-Sheffield-Leeds Motorway ‘, the dates given for construction refer not to that section but to the one between Luton and Dunchurch .

Both you and Silent Blade are correct with your much later dates and I’m sorry if mine caused any confusion .

Maybe you were thinking of the FA Cup match in 1968 when many Blades were stuck in the M1 traffic?

The encyclopaedia of the Football League those , used to love em 👍

The publication I remember most from being a young lad with great affection was Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly.

From being around 9 years old my Dad used to buy it for me every month, even though looking back we were totally skint.

It was a groundbreaking magazine , being in full colour and printed on high quality paper . It contained a wide range of information about all things football and having read every single word of it , I couldn’t wait for the next one to be delivered.

Anyone else remember it ?

When I started following football in 1970, I was impressed with my Uncle Ronnie's collection of Charles Buchan's Football Monthly so I "borrowed" a lot of them taking them home but never gave them back to him!

When it came to reading I had "gone off" from reading Marvel comics around that time so I started reading Score n Roar, Scorcher and then Shoot!

Don’t know if you’re aware of this “Best of” book, Joe, which came out a few years back. Price on the back is £16.99 but there are secondhand copies on Abebooks etc. for a lot less.

I’ve photographed a specimen couple of pages from inside just to give a flavour and this includes (bottom left) one of my favourite ever shots of a packed - absolutely packed - terrace at Roker Park. Fantastic image.

Apologies for the slightly skew-whiff photos.
