But this team is beginning to look quite special.

Goals from defence, goals from midfield, and goals from our strikers.

I've heard stories that Leon Clarke doesn't care but I saw him celebrating goals he didn't score while on the pitch today and then turns up with a top class goal himself.

Winning games that we don't play well in such as MK Dons and a really poor first half today excites me as much as the games where we dominate and win by several goals.

Signing players that performed exceptionally last season IN THIS LEAGUE such as Fleck and Duffy was good business.

Replacing a weak link goalkeeper with an expensive but much superior replacement in Moore was good business.

And making the players care about playing for Sheffield United again was probably the best thing he's done.

We're only a third in and nothing is won yet, but it's beginning to look like my campaigning to have Adkins sacked so we could replace him with Wilder was a master stroke : D

Encouraging but that's all it is. Promo never won in November

5 points clear and 2 games in hand should be a little reminder of how quickly things can go tits up

Next game is the only one that matters and gaining those 3 invaluable points

The rest will take care of itself..................hopefully

Blades Mad clapper.

Looking forward to our next encounter with Chezzie. Was going to suggest it might be about confirming promotion for us and relegation for them but, hopefully, these things will be sorted before then.
Let's hope that last game of the season is a celebration. A packed Lane, carnival atmosphere, folks in fancy dress etc. Let's hope we can celebrate in the late April sunshine the end of a long six year winter in the league that time forgot.

If only that was the title of my post.

To be fair even Herbert's clapping like a good un nowadays.

There's a lot of things I don't agree with Herbert on but invariably I think his post match summaries of the game and players are spot on and I rarely disagree with anything he says on those points.

Collect 5 likes sir - Ricky, Herbert, Carruthers, Interferingwithplay and the yellow chicken. Have I missed any?

That record would be even more impressive if he'd had a good start with us

Entertaining football so far and hopefully we can keep the results coming til May.

We just need to ride out the dreaded transfer window first.

You analyse performance in the short term and results in the long term.

We can't control the fact that two or three other teams look like worthy contenders and we can't predict all the twists and turns that inevitably come in a long season.

What we can do is look at our recent games and ask if we're doing on the the pitch what's required for success. We're making chances and taking plenty of them, we're out-classing the teams beneath us and digging our heels in when needed. We've played the top two sides away from home and matched them stride for stride, and, most importantly, goal for goal. We have a depth in the squad where players like Clarke are yet to make their mark, and others who have done well, such as Scougall, O'Connell, and Chapman, are still struggling to get in first eleven.

I only really remember one game last season where Adkins had me believing, and that was Peterborough away. We looked like the real deal that night. Wilder's had us looking that way for the past dozen games.

Hell of a long way to go, but we look like a top side. We don't need to look to improve massively (although you never stop trying). We just need to keep doing what we're doing.

Herberts crying into his wank sock this weekend .... Messi , the best player ever in interplanetary football ,was shit for the argies AGAIN .

That's about the long and short as far as I can see Poker, no one can tell how things will unfold, but we do look good, not just in terms of talent but in terms of attitude too.

As for recruitment, my preference would be for a midfield enforcer, someone who can do the job that Basham isn't equipped to do. The creative talent is there, we just lack someone who can do the tough, dirty stuff, which in turn enables the creative element to do their thing. Fleck can challenge, of that there's no doubt, but if we were to add an out and out tough tackling midfielder I think we'd have close to an ideal formation for the remainder of the season. We've already got a great squad. I'd just like to see the addition of an uncompromising midfield player to add a bit more balance.

It's a tough position but the best one to be in in that anyone we sign needs to be of real quality. I'd still like some genuine width to our game, and an enforcer would be good too, but we'll be shopping in a different market to the one I was expecting. No need to risk upsetting the balance of the squad by bringing in more bench warmers.

Correct, no subs necessary. We just need players who will offer different options, thus enabling what certain posters refer to as plan A, B etc to be implemented. A talented wide player would create something we currently lack. We need to worry the opposition all over the park. There's also the small matter of what might happen with EEL, but it's out of our hands, so no point doing anything other than push on and win the next game.

Promotion is not won in November? of course not, not last season or the season before or, well ever, but somebody is going to go up and I'd rather be where we are today, league position, form, management and fans than for a long time, promotion in November? no, but I bet the rest of the division think we are.

One game at a time

You don't win anything in November

Still a long way to go

Let's not get ahead of ourselves
