Great stuff, I knew we’d get to the whole ‘I know more than you’ stage at some point but that was quicker than I thought.

At what point did I say none of those 4 players would improve us? You’ll notice I didn’t but it seems that Wilder may have felt that way at least.

Nope, don’t think I have ever suggested anyone (which is absolute definitive proof that you know more than me, obviously).

By ‘suggesting’ do you just mean listing players that have signed for other teams and/or ones that Ricky has already mentioned?

Can you provide a link to where you ‘suggested’ any of those players before they made their most recent moves?
Do I really need to suggest clearly established championship players before they move? Fuck me.

Have a poke around mongo, you’ll find a few posts about Sam Baldock and Adam Armstrong at least. I’m not going to waste my time providing that proof, if you want it you’ll find it.

And I do apologise that Ricky suggests some good players that would improve us and I/a few tend to agree with him on most counts.

Not reacting yet as we don't know until Friday what the state of play is, but I don't understand the comments that 'we shouldn't get X player in as they're too similar to what we've already got'.

When you essentially only have 3 strikers, being fully covered is more important than fulfilling a specific role. I would gladly take another, younger, Sharp or Clarke type player (or even of similar age). They wouldn't even need a spectacular scoring record, just a good enough one to justify signing as an alternative. For example, at this point Cameron Jerome would be better than signing no-one. He's not better, but he's good enough to help the team and score some goals if suspensions and/or injuries hit.

I do hope we get someone better than that, but who exactly, i'm not sure.

How much do we think Webber and Kabba would be worth in today’s market... would have to be £12-15m each by

The OP seems a little premature and no disrespect meant.

So much can change until the deadline.

There has to be some compromises brokered. We missed out on Sinclair and the other lad last time. But there was no winner there, only losers. Both lads ended up playing no first team games and missed out on 6 months of Championship football. Sinclair is having to content himself with experience at a lower level and Quina left for Watford and is in their League Cup team.

Hardly well played cards in either case in terms of bringing on their game.

Calling cobblers until 4.55pm Friday

If we don’t sign a striker we have no ambitions of getting promoted. Simple as that.

Watched so many good championship strikers go to other, frankly lesser clubs while we’ve been chasing pie in the sky.

IF WE WERE to sign nobody the club would deserve every bit of the battering they’ll receive.
If we don't sign a striker then we don't have the finance to get the players Wilder wants
Simple as that.

One man's pie in the sky is another man's ambition.

Why would the club deserve a battering because they're not just signing any old striker to keep the fans happy?

Now will you stop throwing things around and put your toys away please or I'll have to nip over to mumsnet and get some proper advice on controlling unruly kids.

Nahki Wells, Tomer Hemed, Sam Baldock, Adam Armstrong.

All would vastly improve our frontline.
Maybe you should drop Wilder a line and let him know about all these obvious targets he's missed?

Do something positive for a change :)

Says who , suspect if he wants to go he’ll go

Fair point and CW has backed that up. However, I think there are exceptions and there's been the rumour on here that JOC wanted to leave for Brighton, with CW blocking it, possibly because Brighton didn't meet CW's valuation. Possibly because we didn't have a replacement lined up. Nevertheless, these players are only allowed to leave when circumstances are such that it not only satisfies the player, but the club as well

No we can't

CW has said he will reassess in Jan
If the 'no new' option becomes a reality it looks like CW dropped a clanged there. Could we have had a recall clause or is it only allowed in Jan?

Don't think we can recall him until January can we?

No. And tbh, even though I haven't given up on the lad doing it (in a footballing sense) at Utd yet, we should leave him well alone to get some game time in a less pressured environment and then we will see whether he's still worth preserving with next January.

If we were relying on Ched in any shape or form this season, then we really have royally f*cked up in our planning. Ched was always ever gunna be a potential bonus only for CW.

How unpredictable. Maybe, just maybe we should have brought players in and THEN sold Brooks.

Bit of a scary prospect for us though isn't it.
The temptation to McCabe et al now will be to keep the money to run the club for the next 6 months.

McCabes a very lucky man to have a manager like CW . CW's lamentable lack of ambition perfectly matches McCabes almost criminal rapacious nature .

Only in S2, eh ..... o_O

Not sure 56

These days it seems that all the loans arranged appear to be a season long loan with an option to recall in Jan, or just up to Jan

I can't remember the last time I heard of a 1 month loan

If they are that good why did none of them get snapped up by top end championship clubs? ......They may (or may not) be reasonable (at best) but as CW has said, they have to have certain criteria and fit into the way we play. The fact he hasn’t been interested in any of them tells it’s own story as judging by his current targets the 4 you mentioned were clearly within budget. As has been said, why loan a player just for the sake of it? We maybe thin on the ground but it’s better than someone who’s unsuitable

No need for rumours on the rumour mill section?

Not for the next 36 hours.

Rumours are one thing which by nature are vague.

But having a meltdown and a crisis about a rumour is where it goes downhill.

Avoid the rumour mill board for the next 36 hours then?

Personally this is why I come on the board to read rumours such as this.
