I think most people’s issue with ChatGPT posts is that it’s so easy for anyone to do it themselves. It’s like someone posting “here are the first page of Google’s search results”. I could literally just ask the Q of ChatGPT myself.

Without having any knowledge of what impact this has, if we’ve brought in the Bulgarian Right Back as a development player does he take an allocated slot if he’s not going to play for the first team anytime soon?

Ie could we not just either loan him out or play for U23s and keep a slot available

As I recall, and I may be wrong, but he did qualify until he played a game in the new season at which stage he lost a lot of previously earned points, something the club didn't know about.

I remember one poster being very adamant that wouldn't happen right up until it did.

All covered in my very dull video but the answer is no:

Loanees still have their registration held by their parent club, as well as, if applicable, the loan club, so those players that signed on an ESC basis but have subsequently been sent out on loan are still occupying a an ESC slot.

I guess it's harder to sign a first teamer and make money on them, you'd normally improve them to first team level and then make a profit (Brighton etc..)

I agree if you ask it a basic question with no follow ups, refinement or correction, then the first answer probably isn't going to be too valuable - but this isn't what I did... I just didn't know enough about the GBE/ESC system to validate the conclusion.

I'm not an expert by any means, and this is just surface level stuff:

The points system shown in Hal's screenshot are a tally system, for a player to be eligible for a GBE (Governing Body Endorsement). Short version is that if a player earns enough points, the FA will sanction them playing football in this country. Per the image, points are gathered in a number of means - the standard of league a player currently plays in, if the team won their league/domestic cup, any successes they have had in continental competition, and international appearances they've made. The criteria also are different for young players (under 21), as they are given a larger timeframe to earn points in (24 months, rather than 12 months for older players).

If a player does not hit the threshold for an automatic GBE, the club can appeal for one to be issued as a special dispensation, perhaps on the grounds of the player having high potential or something. If it is still not approved, the club can assign the player an ESC (Elite Significant Contribution). We have already handed out all 4 of these we are allowed, so we couldn't use one in this case. But, the idea is that you give a player one of these ESC slots for a season, so that they can accumulate points to become eligible for a GBE instead when the following season starts. If a player does not become eligible for a GBE, they can again be one of the ESC slots and try again.

If this lad is able to hit 18 points per Hal's image, then we should have no concerns about him being eligible to play for us. That said, there's multiple folk in this thread who have seemingly opposing views on whether Zatterstrom will be eligible outright, after an appeal, or not at all. I'd like to think that if Mike McGrath is reporting we're interested, then we will be pretty confident that he will get through without any major issue.

As far as I remember we were going to appoint him until a poster on here pointed out he wouldn't qualify for a work permit.

The problem for me is that there are questions on whether he would get a work permit, which would mean a lot of time arguing the case, without any guarantee of success,and with the time of the window closing drawing near we could end up being short in an area where we are dangerously short to start with, until January. Whilst it's easy to make jibes about the apparent slow-nature of our dealings I think we all just need to have some faith that the professionals we employ have a good idea of what they're doing. That's not a dig at you personally - just the notion that fans know best, when in fact we have a team of administrative and legal people who likely know far more than we will ever know.

Maybe I'm just an old git, but when did we all become sooooooooo opinionated, speaking (well typing actually behind the anonymity of a VPN and keyboard) about things we haven't got a scooby about. Everybody these days seems to be an expert in all aspects of football management and administration.

Oh how I long for a return to the days of 11am meetup in the Blue Bell (virtually every weekend game back then was 3pm Saturday ko), have a few around town, then mouch up to the ground via the Hoffenbrau - a couple more pints watching the strippers. Get into ground about 5 past 3 after a piss and a pie. The chat (generally speaking of course) was about anything other than football! All we wanted was 3 points and a good laugh. We left the football matters to the people who knew far better than we did - ie the professionals employed to do that job.
