Booker I agree re Clarke injury permitting of course. Given the time he was out he had a remarkable end to the season. He strong a natural finisher, fairly quickly and good in the air. Out of all our strikers he's the one I expect to make the step up most effectively.

I would guess that Billy will adjust the most but if you mean the remaining forwards I reckon Clarke will do well if he stays fit and I can also see Hanson and Lavery playing their part. Its a huge season for Lavery and I think he has he skills to step up but he needs to be more clinical.

Too right! Just ask Jordan Rhodes!

That's made me smile, it can be raining on a bank holiday Monday, but no one can take away the memory of that goal shy twat refusing to man up for the filth when they needed him.

0. I haven't seen Lionel Messi play in the flesh either. Let's sack it off then
How many times on TV? I've seen him once. Didn't think he was good enough for the championship but I realise he's probably better than he was that day.

Blackman was a decent player for us in L1. Seen him a couple of times since and he's OK at championship level but a bit frustrating. Doesn't always make good decisions.

Based on what I've seen, I think with Blackman, you know what you'd be getting, Watkins is a gamble. I certainly wouldn't say he's definitely a better signing. If CW thinks he is, I'll agree with him because he knows more about such things than I do.

think i was one of the few that didnt like him despite him scoring a few for us (half of them pens) he was the greediest player ive ever layed eyes upon without the ability to back it up.. really dont think he's a wilder type player at all its a no from me

The difference being that Blackman has gone from a player who they paid £2 million for to a guy on a free, even Jordan slew cost a million.
Blackman offers nothing that we do nit already gave, if not an ex blade we would not be talking about him, his recent record is dire!

Apart from blistering pace? Exactly the type of player CW would go for? All the tools become the top championship striker he was when derby signed him? Wouldn't be surprised at all if we signed him now.

Bit off topic but I've just been doing a bit of casual googling and I came across this article. It was done 3 months ago but it's still interesting and got me thinking.

For me Blackman was clearly raw and extremely selfish in his time here which was frustrating for the most part but at the same time I remember his first goal with his first touch in the league cup (I believe it was against Burton if I'm correct) and also that great scoring run he had at Reading. I also always remember how much we changed as a team once he went in January which to me showed his ability and value to the team.

Thinking further about his knee injury and manager changes (as well as tenuous Derby links) it's reminded a little bit of Paul Coutts this time last season. At times before this last season Coutts frustrated me just as much as Blackman in the sense that there was clearly a player there who could dominate games but for some reason or another wasn't showing consistency in performance.

Now I'm not saying that we should sign him or even that he's on our radar but I will say that if we are then based on how Coutts turned out this season Wilder would be 100% the man to get him back on track to the player we saw at Reading.

Still would be a risk but for the right price then I think it could be a risk worth taking.

Blackman's best is undeniably good.

He's not had any career changing injuries.

Do we not trust Wilder to get the best out of players, more often than not?

For me he'd be worth signing. He'd give us something we've not got and we'd be getting a right winger and a striker in one player.

"And that, children, is how to wax lyrical about a mediocre footballer who we mustn't miss out on."

"Johnny, you've got your hand up?"

"Yes, miss. I've been checking him out on 'junior computer manager', his goals return for the last six seasons are 0, 4, 3, 11, 0 and 0. Might he be a little bit shite, miss?"

"Bladey Kyle, at the back with your teaching assistant?"

"Miss, I've heard he's 27 and he's scored 44 league goals in his career including loads of pens and 12 of those were in the Premier League...in ...Scotland. That's good isn't it?..."

The class descends into stony silence. The other kids turn and look knowingly at Bladey Kyle....

And thats funny Pinchy

Not so. Kitson (a far better centre-forward in his time than No-Goals Nick) won at least two that I recall, probably more. You are remembering what you would like to have happened, not what did. I'm no statistician but I'll wager he won less than 50% of the penalties he took. Where's my friend Silent Blade?

Another hugely overrated bringimback candidate, best avoided by all but Bladey Blades.
Kitson was a decent striker in his time but he was rubbish for us. Awful signing imposed on the inept manager.

He certainly was. He was far from rubbish. He was a cut above Nick No-Goals Fucking Blackman who just gets better and better the longer he does absolutely nothing.

He was a good taker of a penalty.... Those piglets would have swapped Blackman for Rhodes for those last few minutes.

I don't recall Kitson being awful at all. Aging and well past his prime yes... But awful... no

Nick Blackman however, I spent most games I watched him wondering if he was on the pitch. He'd occasionally pop up and do something really skilful that's make you think there was a really good footballer there... then he'd disappear again not to be seen for the rest of the half.

Can't believe he's still getting so much stick.

He only played half a season for us, he was our top scorer and we were top of the league. We sold him and dropped off due to a lack of goals.

We'd have been contending for the top 2 if he stayed, we were far from impressive that season but a Bolton esque scrappy promotion wouldn't have been impossible if we had someone putting them away.

Bloody 10x the player we 'replaced' him with.

I thought Shaun Miller was better than Blackman until he got injured.

Everyone sees things differently. I just didn't see a team player

I agree, I thought Miller was going to end up as our top scorer easily. Was that the same season as Blackman? Everything from the last 6 years is just foggy.

If Blackman and Shaun Miller were still there after January then promotion was a certainty.

Just keeping Blackman would have been enough. He was our only attacking outlet, after he left we had absolutely nothing. And ultimately we still only missed out by 8 points.

Kitson was decent for the first half of the season but by the end he was completely past it.

That's my beef with Blackman, he didn't really look like an 'outlet' . He clearly had all the talent and all the attributes but never really seemed involved.

I think his career post Bramall Lane is probably testament to that. Apart from a purple patch at Reading he's done nowt. I just wish he'd signed for the Pigs when they wanted to sploff millions on him, but he went to Derby instead
