Has pace and knows the league, rumoured to be off on loan abroad, but surely coming to Blades would make more sense for everyone?

Would Derby loan him to us though?

Who knows? They could put a clause in the contract to prevent him playing against them for us. The link says Rowett wants him to get game time. He could get it with us.

He isn't what we need apart from when it comes to taking penalties

No thanks. Let someone else have a non-scoring striker.

This really is a Bladey Blade suggestion. Nobody would dream of suggesting No Goals Nick if he hadn't played for us.

We'd need to bring Whiteman back from Donny though to bring some balance to another Blackman

Even worse a 'Bladey Blade' suggestion is , 'we need someone else to partner Sharp'.

Yes. Sharp seems to have a season ticket for some. My own view is that he's up for selection like everyone else. In fact you've got it slightly wrong - it's "someone to partner Billy", I believe?

For me it's the best two for Sheffield United. At the moment that would include Billy but far from set in stone. Ched must be very, very close to a start.

In any event, we have seen that it's very much an 18 for Tufty, not an 11.

Naturally, I want Billy to do well, but at this level teams push up, they don't sit on the edge of their own box defending hoping to hit on the counter like many league 1 teams did (Walsall on a few occasions). That meant that most of Billy's touches were in the opposition 18 yard box, where he's lethal.

At this level we need pace, an outlet, someone with movement, to receive a slide rule pass, to take advantage of the higher line. That's not something either Sharp or Clarke do, thus rendering them almost pointless. Cardiff and Middlesbrough caught us out numerous times just with a punt over our back line.

I think we have to bear in mind we've just played two teams who might well be top six this season and both away from home. Neither Leon nor Billy had much chance to shine. By contrast, against Brentford, they combined for our goal and Leon, in particular, excelled.

Now on Saturday, with neither disrespect nor cap-doffing, we are playing Barnsley at home. It's reasonable to expect both to figure prominently and both have earned the opportunity to do so, but they better take it....

Nope, nope, I'm sorry I can't agree with you (just for old times sake ;) ).

Excellent assessment of the situation. Whoever played up front in the last 2 would have struggled. It's games like this Saturday where the likes of Sharp and Clarke will get the opportunity to shine. As you say, they need to take it with Ched waiting in the wings and hopefully 1 more striker to come in.

Right wing, centre forward, fast, strong, powerful shot. Those players are in quite short supply. We could do worse. He had that very good spell for Reading, as long as he's still the same physically Wilder has as good a chance as anybody of getting him back to that form.

And we could do with a penalty taker. We can't afford to miss them quite as much as we could last season. I don't want to see Sharp taking another one.

This!

As a forum (in general) we tend to be way too reactionary. There is a reason why managers constantly trot out clichéd sayings like "well not get too high when we win, or too low when we lose"

I'm sure we'd all like a resolute and emotionally stable team, it would also be nice to say the same about ourselves as fans.

Bamba, Manga, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett..... even Richards and Zohore are quite black.

Cardiff are basically the dream team.

I'd take him loan definite. Those saying he doesn't score goals are forgetting how creative he is. One thing we lack, in fact two, is a player who has pace and can take someone on - like Mendez-laing can. I'm not saying Blackman is as fast as Mendez-Laing but Blackman would, in my view, improve the team with his quality, particularly in the number 10 role. I doubt it will happen but he is type of quality we need.

I knew it would get called bladey blade, but really there arent a lot of options out there. He has pace and a decent shot, he can also beat a man. We could do worse.

Ironically it makes me think people would be interested in signing him if he hadnt already been here.

Someone who is fast and stretches the opposition defences. I do not know who is in Wilder's list. Blackman likes to hog the ball on the right wing and this isn't good enough for me

Such as? Who would be on your list?

He didn't create much for us. He wouldn't pass the ball!

Give me a list of strikers who wouldn't break our wage structure and then I will pick one. I don't know which strikers we can afford and you don't too but Wilder will know and he is keeping his cards close to his chest. I would like a Brian Deane type. We can find someone better than Nick Blackman. Looks like we will have to wait until after the Derby match when PL clubs will be revealing their 25 man squad

Started 51 in 3 years. That's about 37% starts of the games they played.
Shouldn't have sold him when we did, don't need to compound that by signing him now in my view.

Depends on how you slice it. According to wiki he played in 103 games in three years for Reading and then was sold for £3mill to Derby. Thats a fair few games, even if some were from the bench. his last season for Reading he got 11 goals in 25 games which aint bad at this level.

He was greedy but he scored 13 goals, about 8 were not penalties and he scored them from out wide often dribbling at people. He'll probably go abroad anyway.
