Nick Blackman

He's played most of those games on the wing, and many of them off the bench.

He was scoring plenty for Reading only a year ago, he was on fire, so it'd be a real coup for us in L1. He scored a few for us in this league last time when he was less developed and when we were a much poorer team so he should have no problem now.

He'd add a lot to our team. Pace, power, a powerful shot, skill, trickery, composure, penalties... he'd be an outlet and create space for our midfielders and link with Sharp at least as well as anyone else has.

He could play with/around Sharp or give us a great attacking wide option in a different formation.

I'd expect him to score at least 7/8 goals between now and the end of the season if we signed him.

As for him not being a typical Wilder type, maybe not but I think you compromise if it means getting a player of his quality in this division.

If he is coming in as a winger, and we are looking for a proven striker as well, then I would agree Rickster. But at the moment, only Billy Sharp is scoring on a regular basis and I think we need more than that for the final push.

I won't keep banging on about it, but I really hope our scouting network are saying to James Vaughn's agent, "does your lad really want the prospect of League 2 at Bury?, doesn't he fancy a chance of Championship football next season?"

Special teams - Penalty formation - Get yersen ready Nick

Taking an enormous leap into metaphysics and pretending for a moment that this isn't utter shite... Nick Blackman was a really talented footballer but one with crap movement and low work rate. Unless he's changed his game he's never been a Wilder style footballer.

You see, I must admit, I never saw crap movement and low work rate as being his faults. The main criticism I had of him was that he was too bloody greedy. He wouldn't pass you the salt at times. The best I saw him play was when we employed him wide right, where his pace down the flank caused teams a lot of problems and it usually meant that at the end of it he had to pass it, i.e. to cross it into the box. If any of you went to an away game at Preston a few years ago when we played him out wide you may remember he was very impressive in that role.

I find it hard to believe that he'd be willing to drop down to League 1 - but then again, it won't be for long will it?

He was handy out wide, I'd forgotten that. I was thinking about his contribution up front, which was pretty minimal until he lashed one in or slotted a penalty.

He'd offer something different up front, I'd have him back. Was always a threat when he played for us and he had goals in him.

His goalscoring record in the Championship is quite poor though. Has he played more on the wing?

The fact that we let him go when we did still boils my piss. In terms of self castration it's almost up there with the Deane/Fjortoft debacle as far as I am concerned.

If it is really between us and Brum then I would like to think that he would see us as unfinished business, assuming he wants to leave Derby of course. I can see them coming on like a train with Rowett next season.

He hit some decent form at Reading, move to Derby and then didn't do much. Has he played much? Either way, I'd take him back, think he would be a decent signing.

He's been injured quite a bit but looks like most Derby fans want rid of him, my mate speaks as highly of him as we did Hammond

Would make sense as it'd be a winger and a striker in one signing, and he has the athleticism and flair that we lack.

He didn't have too much of a bad injury so there's no reason Wilder couldn't get him performing again.

Would be a great signing.

We're In the championship now,so why shouldn't we be looking at players of this calibre?
Good age aswell.
What I remember of him under Wilson was that he liked the ball played to feet and ran the channels!!
Gerrim signed!!

Would take him on a season long loan. Really can't see us doing a permanent deal, he cost derby a few million.

He'd fit in any system including an attacking right winger, and could offer another option on the left.

I also think he could play with any type of striker, ideally just behind/around someone like Billy but also with a target man.

How about Evans and Blackman up front.... some shooting power there. Right and left foot.

I also think a loan would be more likely, he's got 2 years left on his contract.

I'd certainly take him back but I'd play him out wide and use him up top if need be. He's a tidy player from what I remember.

He was a very talented lad. Greedy as hell though! But I think we need a bit of that. Too many players seem scared to have a pop. Be interesting if he signed. Certainly give us summat different.

Good Pele, No. I'd pick Leon Clarke in front of this non-scorer every time.

His career record is pitiful, especially when you count the Scottish goals and penalties.

Another one to be brought back on a false Bladey premise.
He scored a lot of penalties for us pretty much all of which he won in the first place

Not so. Kitson (a far better centre-forward in his time than No-Goals Nick) won at least two that I recall, probably more. You are remembering what you would like to have happened, not what did. I'm no statistician but I'll wager he won less than 50% of the penalties he took. Where's my friend Silent Blade?

Another hugely overrated bringimback candidate, best avoided by all but Bladey Blades.
