As it almost certain that Speed is now off it's time to vote on the preference for a new manager.

Balls, forgot to put John Sheridan and Smegson in there, Foxy, linz, can you fix?

Who I want... and who we'll get are two entirely distinct topics.

Voted for who I'd want out of that lot nevertheless.

How about Southgate, O'Neil ? Dowie will also no doubt be applying.

Brown 3/1 and Hughton 4/1 are current favs at the two bookies who have a market thus far.

Have you been drinking? O'Neill? :D

But yes, please add sousa, Southgate and dowie to the poll please mods. Cheers.

The only two that I could see working under the current circumstances are Chris Hughton and Micky Adams. I've gone for Adams as he's a Blade, slightly cheaper option (potentially) and has the right sort of mentality for a dog fight. We could do worse than those two though.

Perhaps you could have added an "Other" category? John Hughes, Eddie Howe are realistic options and I'd be happy with either. I've voted Curbishley but I don't think he'd come to us.

I forgot about Southgate and in other circumstances I wouldn't have minded him

I think I need to clarify. We need a manager with experience of a relegation dog fight if he won't get any money. So renders my Sousa one pointless too :(

I've gone for Micky Adams out of that list, although Keith Hill might be OK and maybe Russell Slade.

I can't believe so many people are going for Micky Adams. He wasn't on hardly anyone's thoughts 3 months ago, and would be taking as back to the style of football we've been clamoring to get away from.

i voted mickey adams purely for his love of the blades, tho as in another thread, i mentioned Ronnie Moore hes already local, fair bit of experience and probably cheap option (mcCabes fave two words) tho of course like others id love to see harry bassett back for his swansong.

i voted o'driscoll - his teams play nice stuff but i dont think he would come tbh.

id take micky adams and would contemplate sheridan even with the link to our dirty neighbours

Looking at the list, there's two that realistically would not entertain us. Coppell as he wont manage up north, plus he's lost the inclination to manage and Curbs would not consider us imo, especially as we haven't got a pot to piss in.

Out of the rest of them, unfortunately none of them inspire me. Yes one or two might get lucky and do a good job, but tbh, it really is worrying when you look at our depleted, under strength squad and then work out which one of that lot are actually goner save us from the dreaded drop. :(

Forget Coppell of Curbishley - not happening.

Ideally I’d like O’Driscoll – but given how quickly we’ve fallen, the time it would take to change to his style, and the fact that we couldn’t afford him anyway, I’d rule him out.

I think reality dictates a lower division wheeler dealer (that’s where our next signings should come from, and is also where we could very likely be) then I’d go for Adams. He’d have passion for the club, knowledge of the players we could afford, ability to work on tight budgets and experience of 3 promotions. What’s more, he’s \unlikely to be poached at the first sign of a whiff of success. After Adams probably Hill or Howe.

Exactly right mate. Unbelievable. It's parochial, starry-eyed claptrap.

HOOF!!!!!!!

I despair.

There's someone on Bladesmad who's doing a fairly convincing act of being in the know.

He reckons there's two in the frame: one dissapointing (but not Megson) and one quite good. No other clues as yet.

Woohoo! :(

I watched Adams' Port Vale side play Blackwell's team off our own park. There was only one team playing any football and they weren't in our stripes.

It's a measure of how far we've fallen, agreed. But make no mistake, we've fallen.

3 months ago we didn't have clarity on how likely we are to get relegated or the dire state of our finances. They both dictate, for me, a lower division wheeler dealer. I don't recall Adams' teams, other than Leicester, being out and out hoof. And wasn't Basset with him there?

Don't want Houghton, my Nan could have managed Newcastle to the Championship title last year, punching well above his weight and will make no difference whatsoever.

We need someone who will get the players fighting, spilling blood for the cause, so Adams is the obvious choice because he knows what it means, would be a good short-term fix, (ala Blackwell) but not a long term option. Wouldn't be dissapointed with Brown but I think McCabe will want a "big" name so I could see Southgate or Strachan. I could also see him going for Dowie or Hart until the end of the season.

Paul Ince??
He's always seemed like a guy who would kick backsides and gets teams playing decent football.

I know its early days, but its interesting to see that Mickey Adams is the front runner, I actually wanted him before Warnock took over.

After Blackwell we wanted a man to get us playing passing, attacking football.

Now we want someone who can do a Job to clean up the mess. Get the players playing again...

Wasn't that what we wanted after Robbo?

Obviously now we want someone on the cheap who won't get poached at the first sniff of a job elsewhere.

Best stick Mr K. Blackwell on your list then Highbury :)

I think there's many better options out there than Adams. Would he even get a look in if he wasn't a Blade? Probably not.

Keith Hill or Eddie Howe for me personally.

A long shot but what about Alex Sabella? Estudiantes have just won the Argentinian league title so he must be a better shout than the likes of Wilder, Adams, Hill. Howe, Holdsworth etc.
