lol Bryan Robson 40/1 :)

Great shout. Experienced, knows the club and fans well, and is experienced with relegation battles. I say let's give him a chance to redeem himself. We better be quick though, because I'm sure Blackburn will be looking at him. Best give him a 3 year deal for some long-term stability too.

Paul Tisdale from Exeter, anyone? Promotion from Conference and League Two in consecutive seasons, followed by keeping them afloat in League One. Another name for the pile?

Phil Brown ,proven record ,knows the division ,rested and hungry.
Look beyond the permatan ,since when do we worry about the colour of a persons skin ?

Glynn Hodges? currently working as a coach under hughes at Fulham.

Seems perfect, former Blade, knows Pembo, looking for his break (no doubt), well connected and no doubt CHEAP!!!

its gunna be pembo. hes already on the pay role so it will be cheap. hes worked with the academy players so knows the talent thats in there and lets face it we have no money and the players have to come from somewhere so why not the academy

COuld get Pembo and Hodges in. our penalty hero's. Love to see one of our current set have a go at Hodges

hart and pembo. didnt they get palace out the sticky stuff along with dougie freedman a few yrs back ?

Is it STV? If so my vote goes to SOD in the second phase. Football not Hoof!

And the new manager is........

Keith Edwards!

Oh sorry, I thought Fifa were making the choice.

Firstly we have no money, so the cheap option is the only option, which rules out a lot, including anyone currently managing a club. Doubt we'll go for an inexperienced manager again, so a few more ruled out. Whoever any of us might want, the above narrows the field a bit.

I think given the Welsh FA's compensation and the loss of Speed's hefty contract, the likes of Howe, Hill and Adams could still be considered. I take your point though - Burnley coudn't afford O'Driscoll when they were in the premier league.

UTB

And the name the Daily Mail has leading the race for the job..........Dean Saunders.

I've voted for other - Eddie Howe of Bournemouth.

History of working with bugger all, knows the lower leagues, massive success with AFCB (bottom of League 2 to top of League 1 despite point deductions, financial restraints and about 14 players in his average squad) and a young up and comer.

What we need is a complete list of staff at the club, odds are the next boss is on that list. Doris the tea lady?

I voted for Adams, 100% blade
but in reality the list is a pile of shit
The majority would struggle to manage to put their trousers on!
McCabe deserves all he gets!
He's the one that got us into this mess But shame on you Mr Speed I thought you had some bottle but it seems not!

Well 1 of the names above earned 53 full international caps including a Euro championship and a World Cup finals. He then was assistant manager at a premier league side for 14 years (working with Ardiles, Hoddle, Santini and George Graham) and assistant manager of his national team for 2 and a half years. In his first year as a full manager his team won the league, were promoted in record time, remained unbeaten at home (league and cup) and only lost 4 of 46 matches.

He'll do for me!

"I think it doubtful we would go for someone without experience of managing in The Championship" says Trevor Birch on the Official website.

So you might as well remove Keith Hill, Mark Robins, Paul Peschisoldio, Chris Wilder, Lee Clark, Alan Knill, John Sheridan, John Hughes, Gus Poyet and Eddie Howe from the list. It's going to be hard enough to find the right manager at the right price without dismissing so many potentially good candidates before we start. Not sure why he had to say that....?

Sothall,

Yours are normally some of the posts I read with the keenest interest (the Rev's another, as for very different reasons are Duncys) but pleeeeaase stop mentioning John Hughes....

Well thanks Raul, I think ;)

What have you got against John Hughes? I've heard good things about him and his achievements on a budget with Falkirk make him a much better option than some others mentioned on this thread. His "attacking, passing" style of football fits with what Birch has said he's looking for and we wouldn't have to pay any compensation. What's up wi' him?

For example:-
"Hughes landed his first managerial job in 2003, when he and Owen Coyle were appointed co-managers of Falkirk. Coyle subsequently left Falkirk to join Ian McCall at Dundee United, leaving Hughes in sole charge. Hughes then guided Falkirk to promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2005. As well as maintaining their SPL status for four seasons, Hughes led Falkirk to the 2009 Scottish Cup Final. Hughes was appointed Hibernian manager in the 2009 close season. He guided the club to Europa League qualification in his first season in charge, as they finished in fourth place in the SPL.

I voted for Micky Adams, but i would also take Andy Scott from Brentford. He's done pretty well with them, currently 10th after promotion last season!

Yes, sorry. Replace him with Andy Scott (or Alex Sabella!)

Foxy / Linz,

Please change my vote to SOD if you can. Coppell is not in the frame and I'd like SOD to have the largest majority possible. Would love to get him over 50% then send to the club. Public opinion counts.

I'm under the impression that Sheffield United are a big city club and should act like one. With that in mind I voted other - other being Allardyce or O'Neill.
