alhooks13 if you are real sorry for doubting you. A few years ago we had a poster called Yank on here who claimed to be a US-based Blade, and posted regularly and seemingly genuinely for a while before telling us a horrific story about a car crash. I forgot if he claimed that he was involved, but I think he said his brother died. Later it turned out he was also claiming to be a Derby fan and a Villa fan, and was posting on their forums giving similar versions of the alleged tragic events.

In full transparency, my version of the original post is at the end of this post before I asked ChatGPT to clean it up. Just to be clear, I have followed the Blades for 20+ years. I attended the Brighton away fixture in November 2023. I visited the Bramall Lane store and bought several souvenirs a few days later. I'm thankful that Paramount+ in the US covers some EFL games so I can watch some games. Of course, I'd see more if the Blades were in the PL. I watched the match against Mansfield this past weekend.

I'm a bit of an Anglophile. I appreciate the English humour (I remembered the correct British spelling). I will watch some British programming on occasion on our local public TV, Netflix, YouTube, and so forth.

I'm also what is called a "birder" in the US or a "twitcher" in the UK. Birding/Twitching is a dedicated hobby that is more active than just birdwatching. New poster here. I'm Al, 59 yo and from Smithfield, NC, USA. I've been following the Blades for 20+ years now and just recently became aware of this forum. I adopted the Blades as my English team to follow due to a family name. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Sheffield so I felt a natural pull to support one of the Sheffield teams. Fortunately, I picked the Blades instead of the pigs. I've attended one match to date, in Brighton in 2023 during a British vacation I took in November of that year. In addition to attending the Brighton match, I made a stop at Bramall Lane on my way north. I'm excited to share that I have tickets for the upcoming matches against Bolton and Norwich City. I'd appreciate any tips to make matchday more memorable and enjoyable. For example, what's a good pub to visit pre-match? Up the Blades!

I've often fancied visiting the RSPB site at Dearne Valley Old Moor but, as a non-twitcher, the entry price seems a bit steep for someone who just wants to enjoy a cup of tea in the cafe there. I'm guessing that you'll join the RSPB when you come over, if you're going to visit several of their sites. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear how you get on at the Dearne Valley Old Moor nature reserve when you go, and look at some photos of it, if you take any while you're there and don't mind sharing them on here.

If you go to Potteric Carr, you might bump into one of our players, Jamie Shackleton. He's often hanging around up there and he's a bit of a 'birder' I hear. It's his second favourite place after the treatment room. You'd need to go after hours though to twitch the Shacks. He certainly spends more time there than on the pitch at the Lane.

If it's just the football matchday experience you want that's one thing. If you want to take in the football, music and steel history that's another. You're probably better off taking a day out to do that.

As it is, In the vicinity of the Lane you have the Portland works (a goal kick from the John Street Stand) where stainless steel was invented and a few famous Sheffield bands practiced on their way up. The Sheaf House pub (site of ex pig ground) is a five minutes walk from the Bramall Lane end if you're in the area

You should check out the Crucible theatre which is the home of the World Snooker Championship every April/May and also the former site of the Adelphi Hotel where United were formed. There's a blue plaque to that effect if you look carefully. There's much more really early football history if you have a day or two albeit much of it is just the ex sites which are now something else entirely.

There's pubs and eateries on Barkers pool and a new pub called the Fargate near the town hall all few minutes from the Crucible if you do go for a wonder up there.. The Wetherspoons pubs (Benjamin Huntsman, Water works) are full of Blades on matchday as it's cheap.

You can't go wrong for booze in Sheff. I'll probably be in the Grapes on Trippet Lane. The Arctic Monkeys did their first gig in there.
