Neal Maupay

It will always have more impact on a week-day. People walk their dogs and play golf at weekends (well I do, but you get the point...). There’s always a stage where details have to be finalised and arrangements made. So there’s an inevitable gap between ‘definitely signing’ and ‘signed already’.

This lad is the big one for me. A real statement. It would excite me more than all the others put together. Then we can get McBurnie as well and I’ll spontaneously combust.
🙏🏻💥
Go Pinchy!

Absolutely. Strap in tight...

Were 161 pages and in excess of 3,000 replies deep... Literally nothing has changed. Nobody knows anything, could be coming, could be going to Villa, could be going elsewhere... Could be staying at Brentford. A disappointing amount of tits have been posted.
What are we all fucking about at. I demand tits!!

I still think he’ll end up here!

Just to put things into perspective regards the £800k agent fee, we got a player in JOC, for less from the same club, tell the agent in no uncertain terms to fuck off. I think Maupay might be getting a bit cheesed off with his agent too?

To be fair he isn’t an unproven player being offered an opportunity to play first team football, he’s a highly sought after talent who has already bagged for fun in the second tier.

His Agent is doing his job, touting him to managers at other clubs and holding out for the best deal for his Client (and sadly, himself). This is how transfers work at the top.

If Maupay really wanted the move to Sheff Utd he’d have pushed it through with his Agent. I suspect there are other more fashionable (and higher paying) clubs who he’d rather join and thus, is happy to let his Agent do his work. I’m pretty sure Wilder won’t be used as a pawn and will move on quickly.

I suggested on another post that Maupay never felt like a Sheff Utd type signing and I stick by it. I just don’t see us pulling this one off.

The Robinson signing may well have meant we already have moved on and we're looking for someone to go alongside Robinson. Just a thought.

I’m sorry but anyone who would sign for Bournemouth, fucking Bournemouth, rather than United, does not have football in his soul or fire in his belly.

Bladez-vous, Maups? À plus tard...
Speaking like a fan mate. Me I’d give just about anything to come on as a last minute sub for United in a meaningless preseason friendly as I’m sure you probably would too. The reality is with a few exceptions players go where their agents get the best deal (for themselves as well) and they make decisions based on that not what me and you would see as important. It remains to be seen though. Wilder is definitely a draw for players (arguably so is Eddie Howe mind) and maybe that will make the difference.

Like it or not it is little to do with the relative historic size of the clubs and more to do with the dirty dollar. Bournemouth have been in the premier league longer than us and have more money. Unfortunate as that may be and how it goes against what we might think is the natural order of things that is the simple reality currently. We can change that but not overnight unless of course we find our own billionaire to buy us.

I thought Maupay never struck you as a Sheffield United type signing?

I’ve not contradicted that. Think you’ve misinterpreted what I said.

What I meant by that statement was, that Sheff Utd don’t usually go for a player of his profile, in competition against so many other clubs and pull it off.

It wasn’t a slight against Maupay as a player and I never questioned that Wilder would be in for him. More, our ability to get the deal done.

Not even same type of player so that throws that out the window.

Not saying they're identical but are you saying we'd go with Maupay and Robinson up top? There's no aerial presence there and we've always played with someone who could do that - Leon or McGoldrick, Madine, before that Hanson.

Just because we’ve done it previous doesn’t mean we’ll do it going forward.

I’m sure I once read something that one of our seasons in league one 0.3% of our goals came from corners
Maybe that’s because we didn’t have any strikers with height. We probably did better last year than most but we’re often reliant on the centre halves scoring which, lets be honest, is not their forte. Nobody is advocating hoof ball but if you have someone like McBurnie who is a natural goal scorer anyway and an added threat at set pieces how can that not be anything but good? UTB

Billy Sharp scored more headed goals in the champ last season than anyone else, I'm reliably informed. Its not about height, it's about movement and delivery.
And if he was 4 inches taller maybe he would have scored more headers from that great movement and delivery. Just tell me how many goals Matty Done scored with his head if height doesn’t matter. UTB

Unless you are Peter Crouch, all defenders are pretty much as tall, or taller than attackers. I stand by my assertion. I would also throw in to the equation actual heading ability, ie to be able to head powerfully and accurately.

It's about ability and attitude not nationality.

If a player wants to fit in and embrace the team ethos and spirit I dont see whether it matters whether he's French or not, especially as he can clearly speak the language.

Patience not in abundance in S2 😆

Heads up, thinking outside the box with some blue sky thinking here. Going forward it's a no brainer that if you drill down and employ some joined up thinking that might bring to the table then it's a game changer for us some best practices

The helicopter view is that it's a win/win situation, as our strategic staircase means you will have to reach out with the benchmark valuation to get your low hanging fruit. It's a no brainer! Remember, it's like punching a puppy - unpopular but necessary. Peel the onion, ping you later, it's on my radar!

That makes about as much sense as if I dropped a keyboard from a helicopter.
